How do you find out the VID on a I7 chip? I use to use Core Temp to give me the VID on 775 chips, but that does not work on I7 chips. Any ideas?

Whats the significance of vids? I see people asking about them but is there a difference from one to another?

Gives you an idea of where stock voltage should be and how high you can push them. Typically, the lower the vid the better a chip overclocks, no guarantees though, but still a good indication. For instance if the average vid was 1.25v and your chip is 1.21v, then you should have a better than average overclock, and vice versa. There is no guarantee with of course due to all the factors involved with overclocking and even if you have a high vid it doesn't necessarily mean it will not clock high.

By the way, the VID is the voltage the CPU uses by default while running at stock settings, if you weren't already aware.
