Hey, i recently went to an i7 920 system and am currently trying to get 3.6ghz stable.

my bios settings are

v-core 1.375v (cpuz at idle reads 1.36v and load 1.344v)

QPI/VTT is set at 3.2v

IOH voltage is currently set to auto because im still not sure what that does?

if anyone has any suggestions to what settings i should adjust it would be greatly appreciated. :)

as it is my temps are about 75-77c load and 40c idle using a CM V8 is this safe? seems kinda hot

For QPI/VTT, do NOT exceed 1.4v. 1.35v is the most I would recommend, and 1.3v is preferred. For Vcore, set it as low as possible and work your way up.

Temps are normal because this is a 130W processor so they will be higher than the temps you're used to seeing with LGA775 processors.

Do you have turbo mode enabled? Is hyper threading turn on?

You should lower the vcore down to between 1.25 and 1.3 volts (considering the 3.6ghz overclock of the cpu). That way you'll get better temps and your system should still be pretty stable.

^ These people don't seem to realize not every chip can do this, some chips need more voltage.

I suggest this from experience.

x19 multi with 190 FSB.

1.4v vcore, 1.4 qpi/vtt
that should yield you 3.6 and will more than likely be stable and then you can work the volts down from there.
you can leave everything else on auto. make sure your ram voltage is at spec.

also make sure your multi for uncore and all that are correct.

Hyper threading is enabled, i know it makes extra heat but it apparantly helps alot

i have turbo mode on and it seems to affect all 4 cores not just 1. i checked in cpuz and it shows all 4 cores getting bumped to *21 multi. from what ive read it should just affect 1 core?

so 172 *21 = 3612 mhz

v-core crashes below 1.328v (load in cpuz) but im not sure if this is due to other settings being wrong

GTL voltage is set at 1.8v

and QPI voltage is at 1.3v

Ram is running at 1.64v and is underclcoked atm till i get it all stable running about 1400mhz instead of 1600mhz

*EDIT* also load temps r a bit better atm due to better ambient about 24c compared to 32c no air con :( so about 73c load atm

I recently overclocked to 3.8 - Stable on i7 920 chip.

Hardware:
Gigabyte X58-UD5
i7 920
gskill 2gbx3 chip 9-9-9-24 at stock speed
zalman 9900 cpu cooler

FSB: 200
Multi: 19
Turbo/S3/CPU Safety: off

vcore: 1.35 - shows 1.285v in cpuid?
vtt:1.3 - funny thing is gigabyte's guide shows this at 1.515 - way in the yellow.
rest: auto v

memory set manually - running at 1600 mhz -default speed

Load for 4 hours - top reaches 74C - Idle at 38C

Going to watercooling next week and will tweak more. Really want to OC my stock gtx260's.

I have almost the same settings. Only difference is that my Vcore is set to 1.2750v in BIOS (1.248v CPU-Z).
