i7 power supply question

Hi everyone,
I'm putting together a new build an my current power supply is a CoolerMaster M600. When I tried to plug in the power cord to the Mobo I could only get the 2x10 plug to go in and the 2x2 would not..so basically I'm not able to use the last 4 "holes". It fit fine on my last mobo. So do I need another power supply? Are there power supplies that are only compatible with i7 mobo's? Thanks!

Bob

Try inserting the 4 pin first. Also, I've worked with motherboards that whose power connectors were a tight fit. I have succumbed to using a very light coating of Vaseline on some instances. Once, I even used a tad of K-Y to get it in. lol

There are a lot of power supplies available. I'm surprised your i7 motherboard only has a 6-pin though. What model is it?

I had the same problem the other day... the 2x2 extra part didn't "snap" into the normal plug so you have to hold it REALLY TIGHT together for it to push into the slot correctly. In my case anyways.... the little plastic piece that snaps them together seemed to have broke somehow and wouldn't stay together. Check that out.

Well, I got it to fit properly...I had to make sure it was aligned right of course...so I thought "what a dummy I am" for not figuring it out..then I tried to start the computer and nothing happened. I pulled the 4 pin out again and the computer booted....any ideas? Thanks for the help everyone!

No ideas? Also, I have to put my power button twice to get the computer to run? Do I need to buy an i7 compliant power supply? Thanks!

You don't need an i7-compliant PSU. The PSU you have now should work, providing it hasn't failed. Can you try it with another PC to see if it will work there? Do you have another PSU you can test with the i7 system temporarily to see if it will boot with something else? Are you sure you connected everything properly?
