Hey guys,

I'm looking to build an i7 system with a 920 processor in it. And I have two questions.

1) What do you guys think of the EVGA E785-TR as far as OCing goes? I'm looking at it cause the price is pretty good, it has all the features I want and people seem to like their boards and customer service. Is there anything that should be better in the same price range? Between rebates and newegg combo deals I can get the EVGA E758-A1 for the same price... But I can't see a difference between the two?

2) How fast of memory will I need for OCing a 920? My last build I only got DDR2 800 which was the limiting factor of my OC, the board and processor had more left in them but the memory didn't and I don't want to make that mistake again. Will DDR3 1600 be fast enough or should I spend the extra $10 and get DDR3 1800?

The evga 758 is the initial release X58 SLI board, I had one and it's a fine board.
A1= lifetime warranty and Step up available
TR = 2 year warranty and no Step-up.
Otherwise the boards are identical.

Any good DDR3 memory 1600 and above will be fine. I use Corsair dominators on my board and have had no trouble with OCs. You can go as crazy as you'd like in that regard.

I had my 920 at 4.0 GHz easily on the 758 board.
 
Hmmm... Lifetime warranty for the same price... Since I am planning on keeping the system for 4+ years with just upgrading the graphics that seems like it may be my best bet.

So did they just up the number of memory dividers or it the whole OCing procedure different with the new chipset?
 
Thanks for the link, however that left me more clueless than I was before... What the heck is a QPI? lol

Guess I'll have some fun playing around with stuff :D
