I7 980x question help please

I have the chance to trade my msi gt70 for a desktop with a rampage iii board and i7 980x. Also has a 680 4g evga and 512gb ssd. Also a 27" monitor.

I'm not being stupid by trading am I?

I know this processor is awesome and the board but want to make sure I'm making the right choice.

i've still got one of those chips overclocked to 4.4ghz. it encodes video faster than my 3770k @ 4.5ghz. the rampage 3 is one of the better 1366 socket boards to appear on the market. you have to decide whether you prefer mobility to raw processing power.

I think it is an even trade as in term of the price of hardware, they are pretty much the same. In term of performance, you will gain some extra from processor, vga, and capacity size of ssd, but you will lose the portability and mobility.

gaming on a little laptop screen then jumping to a 27 will be night and day...

desktops u can upgrade laptops not so much.. simple enough decision in my mind..
