i7-930 review

Looks good.

But if you can get a 920 for 200 and a 930 for just under 300, I'll buy the 920.

That may change.... but untill then.

Where do you get the 920 for $200? I can't find a new one online anywhere for anything close to that.
 
ugh, nearest microcenter is about 5 hrs. away. Oh well, ordered online, i7 930 on the way from newegg.
 
Wish I had known you were in the market earlier lassiter...I was just at Microcenter yesterday and picked up two 920's

No joy in i7 930 OCville
Not having much success with this 930, can do about 3.6 fairly easy but not having much success getting it stable at 3.8 :(

was hoping for 4GHz :(

I'm still kinda new to socket 1366 overclocking so maybe I am missing something still.

MB: ASRock X58 Extreme
RAM: Gskill Ripjaw DDR3 1600 ram, 4x2GB, in slots A,B of channel 1,2
PS: Corsair TX750W
Cooler: Vigor Monsoon III LT Dual 120mm Fan

lassiterb, be sure to take the ram out of the equation and run it at 1200 or so until you get a good stable overclock. How much juice are you pushing to the cpu?

I thought I couldn't get stable above 3.6....after following this guide, I was able to easily. ;)

Have tried CPU voltage up to 1.4v, and VTT up to 1.55v, have tried multi's between 19 and 22, and BCLK anywhere from 160 up to 200. Pretty much every combination that goes up much past 3.6GHz has led to errors in P95.

1. Manually set your QPI frequency to the lowest possible. If you leave it on auto it will jump to over 7.2GTs and will cause stability issues.
2. Manually set your Ram speed to lowest possible until you get your Blck/multi Stable.
3. Set your Uncore frequency to twice of what your memory speed is.

This should help alot
