i7 920 :(

ya know what, kinda looking at the x5675 now. Found out that my bios version can support it and they super cheap, under 150 bucks and there are lots out there on ebay with make offer so I think I can probably snag one even cheaper.

it 4+ ghz is guaranteed then why not. My waterblock is fine so that isn't a big deal either.

there both guaranteed to 4.2ghz each ;) but since the 5675 has a better chance of being 4.4ghz stable, i would pay the extra 20 bucks.....because at the exact same blck of 191 which is fairly easy to reach the slower will clock at 4.2 and the faster will clock at 4.4(4394mhz)......this is not counting turbo either since well, turbo wont help in many cases anyway so i just disable it on these higher clocked models

edit: of course its more than 20 bucks depending on ebay sales...in some cases the price will be much more:)

Is this a legit place? Not too crazy about Queens. myself. :D I bought x5650 few weeks ago for $79 and still have two L5639 just in case. That L5639 was a lot better overclocker than x5650 and could easily hit 200bclk.

having a 3930K, 4960X and 5820K I don't know how is that possible except with a couple of games but in general scenarios, 95% of the time your 3770K at 4.5ghz should be a best performer than the x5650.

Of course if you only pay attention to overall CPU usage it will appear that the 3770K is doing a greater effort due to less thread, but what you have to really do is look at each thread load as if you have a game that are using only 4 threads at 100% in the 3770K it will showed as 50% CPU usage while in the x5650 will be much less due to extra threads idling. but what matter really is single thread load as most of the time you can have 2 or 3 threads doing all the work and the rest doing little to nothing, so sometimes general CPU usage tend to mislead..

as primetime said best option in any case like this is always to look for a hexa-core xeon those doesn't even reach the 100$ range most of time, is the best bet.

I think Division is best example where 6 cores are useful. At those frames 3930K, 4960X and 5820K don't perform any better.

With skylake 6700 @ Stock you can expect a 30% single thread bump over x58 Xeon, and about a 20% multithread bump over x58...and of course the lead gets even better overclocked...still for the tiny investment x58 still does well;)

You might want to work on your overclock.

CPU Multi Thread
x5650 22x193blck = 112%
6700k = 100%

you know i could have sworn mine matched the 6700 score last time i checked it....no idea why mine is scoring low on this test- this time:rolleyes: (but i wasn't sure until i see your score) i think cpu-z score might not be super indicative of equle results....cause i dont think it would score lower in anything else...i bet it has do do with parking somehow...cause i was playing with one of those parking programs the other day..i may have parked it to a very low power state

edit: good question what it scored lower..cinebench seemed same as usual around 940ish so who knows? my overclock hasn't changed in over a year lol..it stays at 4.2ghz

Did you disable Turbo? I set mine to 22 and get 4.25Ghz on all cores. I should have bought x58 back in the day instead of the stupid q9550. I must say x58 is really amazing. I was thinking about getting x5675 but I doubt I will be able to get more out of it than 4.2Ghz.

I do have turbo disabled in fact......and you have an Asus RE3 as well which i always believed allowed higher multii than mine or op's board. Seems like ours have some kind of power limit where yours doesn't? Think thats correct:)

I got a x5675 for 115 bucks on ebay.

this will interesting as I'm pretty sure I need to remove the motherboard from the case to get the waterblock off.

I hit the wall at 22x193blck @ 1.352 maximum vcore. I'm testing 20x205 with lower voltages. I disabled turbo but I can't choose x21 multiplier. It is either 20 or 22.

If you are thinking about ordering from AllHDD, just all them or ask for a quote on the product. They have a lot of lists and they may or may not have the actual item.

can folks with 5675 post up their OC settings so I have an idea of where to start when I get this thing or is the thread specifically for this CPU?

You've been here for almost 9 years and you can't use search option. Somebody get to bust your chops.:D

honestly sometimes searching just takes too long..gotta have others do the work for me

#millennialproblems. (even though I am not a millennial)

I found thre huge Xeon thread...so that helps just need to go through all 1 zillion pages of it too look.

Raise vcore along with BCLK. Keep QPI @ 1.3. I think people are overdoing with overclocking. If you have a good chip then it should be easy.

I have my i7 980 at 21x200 -- I would have to go look at the voltages but it has been rock solid stable for 4+ years now at those settings. i7 980 is the same die as those xeons.

Yes and no. i7-980x is a power hog. Xeons are 60/90/135 watt. It makes a difference.
