so i just got my new i7 rig running and i figured id try one of the pre set OC options in the BIOS of my board, i selected the 3.3ghz option just to see what temps im going to see later when i OC.

when i loaded up windows i ran linx to stress it a bit and see how the temps looked, i also loaded cpu-z to check the voltage and i noticed that the voltage was at like 1.43v!

so i quickly stopped the stress test and shutdown, and reset all the BIOS options to default.

i was basically wondering if i could have damaged my cpu in any way by running it with that many volts, i know the limit is like 1.375 right?

I would not recommend using the pre set OC options, or "auto" overclockers. Those are notorious for pumping up volts waaay higher than they actually need to be. 1.43 is certainly on the high side, but i don't think you would have done any damage as long as you did not run it for that long and didnt overheat or anything. For an overclock as mild as 3.3 or 3.4, you might not even need to adjust the voltages at all if you are doing things manually.

yea, i wasnt planning on using it 24/7 (still need to learn how to OC with the i7s), was just wondering how my temps would be with my megahalems:D

and no it didnt run for long, maybe for a minute or so, no overheating as well.
 
The maximum safe voltage for i7 CPUs is 1.5V. Your chip is fine.
 
I7 overclock is not that hard unless you wanna hit to extreme speed.

just boost your voltage around 1.33V and set the bclk around 175 and 21x multi. you dont need to play with other settings for simple overclocking. if you pm me i can send you the ss of my bios
