I've been trying to get a little extra umph out of my 920 tonight and I've hit a temp wall. Prime95 ran without any errors for over an hour at 3.78 GHz but my temps where hitting 82 degress Celcius on both cores #0 and #1. I'm running by BCLK at 180 with the multiplier x20 and turbo enabled (x21). CPU voltage is 1.2. I was running my Cooler Master V8 with the fan running full speed. Is there something else I can try to get my temps down or should I just look @ better cooling? I figured I could do much better than this so I'm a little disappointed at this point.

BTW, I'm running BCLK @ 160 right now (3.36 GHz) and a 1.1 CPU voltage. Prime 95 after an hour is around 64 degrees C.

Thanks,

My cores were 78C after 2 hours of Prime95. 3.8 GHz @ 1.25V, your core temperature at 3.78 GHz is fine, the i7 runs hot compared to past CPUs.

If you can verify your voltage in the PC health section of your BIOS.

I say this because my EVGA x58 sli has an odd issue where if I set the vcore to 1.14 the PC health status reports that I'm actually getting 1.3 volts. Any other setting works fine but if your getting high temps you can try verifying the voltage.

other things that can cause high temps include

bad thermal paste.

poor application of thermal paste.

poor airflow in your case.

That's a bit hot for a V8 I think. It's not the best CPU cooler but not the worst either. Do a reseat with some good TIM.
