I just overclocked my Core i7 920 to 3.8GHz and would like some feedback to see if my settings are OK. The only thing I am worried about is the temps which are varily high for idle and load. Keep in mind, my ambient room temperature is 81F. Idle is mid to high 40s and with the LinX test I did (20 passes at 25000 problem size), my load temps were 80/77/77/75 with a VREG temp of 81F.

I am pretty sure I will need to adjust some things but not sure what to get my temps down.

Those temps look fine to me. You are running LinX which will get your CPU to the highest temps you'll probably ever encounter. With those temps, you should rarely see the 920 hitting upwards of 70c during the most CPU intensive session under normal usage.

Thanks, the thing with Linx, I did the stability test at 3.9GHz and passed with 20 passes at a problem size less than 25000 with lower temps. However, at 25000, 3.9GHz failed almost immediately. Also 3.9 passed Intel Burn Test with 10 passes at very high. Does this mean my 3.9 is stable as well or should I stick with 3.8GHz.

Are you increasing the CPU core voltage when you're running at 3.9ghz? If not, I would bump it up a notch or two and run it again. It's possible that LinX stresses the CPU more so you may need to increase the voltage just a bit. I personally use Prime95 and IBT.

I believe I can get by with 1.225 CPU core voltage at 3.8GHz, but I left the setting at 1.23125 for 3.9GHz and didn't bother to adjust it. I'll give IBT another try for 20 passes and see how that goes. Then will probably do Prime95 for 6 hours some other day.
