i7 920 load temps?

This is a stock cooler.
I'm running at 3.4GHz, voltage is dynamic at 1.01-1.02V.

Idle temp at 50-55C, load temp at 75-80C.

Is this good? Do I need to replace my cooler? Do you think I can pump 3.6GHz without too much heat gain?

I7 920 with stock cooler here too,
I'm at 3.2ghz and those temps look familiar.
No problems here and have been up and running for months. And it's pretty hot out now.
Sure a better hsf will help but so far I'm satisfied with this.
 
i have i7 920 too,with stock cooler*buying new cooler next week*,well i OC'ed to 3.2(160*20) idle temp 50-60,load 70 max.room temp about 19-20,d0 stepping.
 
I strongly suggest the Cogage TRUE Spirit.

My absolute max temps @ 3.8 stable (prime95 8+hours and LinX) are 76°c on one core, lower on all the rest (realtemp) with 26ºc ambient and case closed with no special treatment for stability or benching. She usually sits around 71ºc average full load.

My idle temps are about 55ºc ±2ºc

i7 D0... you gotta give it more than 5 seconds to check the temperatures of load... mine raise almost 10c within 5 minutes. 4.0ghz w/ HT on, and Shin-Estu 2273 and lapped TRUE, I did a pretty shitty job lapping though, I'll have to redo it / spend more time later.

Haven't tried to get it stable at higher speeds... 4.0ghz was fairly easy D=

Hyper-threading off drops temps by like 10c under load, maybe 3-5c idle.

I didnt think it was possible to get 4.0ghz with HT on. Always read that HT holds bak your overclocks.
 
i finished my i7 build fairly recently and i'm currently tweaking the overclock. right now i'm trying to find my thermal limit. ultimately i'd like to keep load temps below 80.

how long do you guys let prime run?

when i run for 2-3 hours in the afternoon, it'll run 70-75 on load (3.8ghz C0/C1 w/ Dark Knight HST). i let it continue running overnight and by morning, it's running around 75-80. i'm assuming ambient temperature factor since my AC shuts off overnight.

I have been to 4.2 with it on but my current cooling wasn't anywhere near enough to maintain it. Without at a minimum WC I wouldn't keep it at that freq. or higher as it must kill the chip. It probably kills the chip anyway but just slower with WC.

Mine (D0) at 3.8 in a steady 26ºc ambient with my case doors on and nothing special maintains at most 76ºc peak from 8+ hours. It was a bit lower when I had the voltage at 1.13~~ but LinX failed until I pumped it up to it's current voltage (in Bios) under normal use I never get that high, even during long hours of gaming. Your temps seem to be about the same as mine. As for prime, some say 8 hours, some say once it passes that "finalize" it with a 24 hour run. I know a few rare birds who stick their nose up at anything less than a day declaring that it's not "truly stable". I am not going to burn through 24hours+ worth of juice at full load to appease the fringe. Honestly, do what you feel is the right amount. I think I have only once failed a stress test that lasted longer than 3 hours but less than 8, and it didn't bluescreen, one of the cores suspended work in prime due to an error. 90% of the time I learn if it's stable or not within the first hour, 99% of the time it's within the first 3 hours. Just run LinX after, sometimes it's more demanding of processors than Prime 95, sometimes less. (one sometimes makes it fail while other doesn't). I don't think I would take my comp much passed 3.8 with WC anyway. I just don't need that kind of power. If I had SLI I might consider it.

HT increases temps by a lot... and a lot of people can't use it... I do HD Video Editing and Rendernig and temps are reasonable so I leave it on. You can see 8 threads in Prime95 so that's proof HT is on.
