Slow day, so we decided to play with some hardware.
I know this will not interest gamers, but some other people might find this interesting:

Off to play some more ^^

EDIT:
Cinebench

That poor thing looks memory starved with a meagre 64GB per socket :p

FFFFssssshhhhh Ryzen can't hold a candle to that thing in the Blender benchmark. 8C16T Ryzen processor takes 35.1 seconds, this thing does in 11. LOLOLOL fail AMD!!!!!!!1111uno

You have to remember that this is a 4 CPU system...removing 3 CPU's would give a better picture vs Ryzen ;)

But still faster than what AMD has shown so far in Blender, agreed....but kinda unfair as I do not think AMD has done any test with more than 1 CPU

This is also a ~$5900 server CPU...but in servers that price is often not a concern...performance is more important.

These CPU's are 22C/44T each and as factum said there's 2 of them. Since we know that Ryzen is going to be at lest 16C/32T on the server side it will be an interesting comparison when the chips are finally available

No Cinebench scores? I'm a bit curious what the single-thread performance is on these chips.

I will see if we can get Cinebench on it, right now it 's not connected to the "outside world" only our internal network :)

But it will not be before Monday at the earliest.

If anyone want to see anything specific run on this, go ahead and say so...and we will look into...if time allows :)

But can it run Crysis?

We may be looking at getting some of those for our next HPC build here. Currently we are waiting for a couple HPCs with the E7 v3 8870s. Sadly they only have 18C/36T, but they will come with 4 Titan XP cards as well...

That task manager... Will you run that in 2U or 4U servers in production? These are the CPUs I look foward to on Ebay many moons from now.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he was being sarcastic

It has expansion slots...you want to donate a NVIDIA Titan to find out? ^^

It will be $50 on ebay in few years

Sure...but for now, it's spitting new...and a bit more pricey...but again, the cost of a server CPU is hardly a factor when we are talking servers.

Well we do have about 12 of them sitting around gathering dust at he moment... But trying to get the customer to part with any of his precious toys is near impossible heh. We have about 5 lower end HPC systems sitting around not being used at the moment.

Blithering low post idiotic commentary here.

This is like comparing a bicycle to a Yamaha R1.

We need a 4 x Epyc to compare with (who's going to make the trip to Wal*mart?).

I wonder how TR2 32 core is going to score up?

The 28 core vapor ware platform Intel showed has over 7k score at 5ghz with a corvette engine hooked to it to keep it cool.

Load up your favorite BOINC project and actually put those cores to work :D
