i7 860 OC failure - help ?

I just tried to get my i7 860 to 4.0ghz on my GB P55A-UD3 and failed miserably.

First I tried for 4.0. It rebooted and said that the BIOS had been reset. Then I tried 3.8 and it would loop-reboot and I had to manually clear the CMOS.

What am I doing wrong?

Using ADATA 1600 memory with 99924 timings. Mem was clocked to 1600.

First, I hope that you are aware that that guy was using a core i5 750, NOT an i7 860. Just because he used the same motherboard doesn't mean that you can use the same settings. The 860 has a multiplier of 21, but the 750 has a max multiplier of 20, which means that you will use different cpu frequencies to get to 4.0GHz (20x200=4.0GHz, but 21x191 roughly equals 4.0Ghz). See what I mean by you can't use the same settings? Er... well, you could use the same settings, but why would you.

Second, keep in mind that every cpu is different. You will never be guaranteed to get the same results even if you use the same parts and settings. Just because someone's settings don't work for you doesn't mean that they are wrong.

In regards to some actual advice. I would suggest starting small and then working your way up. Don't just shoot for 4.0GHz. Maybe shoot for 3.2, see if you can get your system going and do some stress tests (prime95, intel burn test, etc) to check stability, then bump things up a bit. You might also want to try disabling hypertheading (it will reduce temps and voltage requirements). Once you get things stable without it, turn it back on and then again adjust your settings.

I was able to get it to work by lowering the BCLK from 200x20 to 180x21.

I also upped my vtt qpi voltage from what that other thread had.
