Just built my new system with the 2700k, ASRock Extreme3 Gen3, and Enermax T40-TA cooler. I used Antec Formula 7 thermal paste.
I used the motherboard auto overclocking to make the CPU run at 4.8 Ghz turbo boost. With the automatic overclocking the voltage sits at about 1.41 under load.

I'm using CoreTemp to monitor the temps. After only a few minutes of Prime95, one or two of the cores hit about 80 C (Core #1 and #2). After an hour, those two of the cores get close to 90 C.
This seems very hot. I'm debating about removing the heatsink and trying new or different thermal paste. Possibly chunking the HS and going with something different.

What do you guys think? How accurate is CoreTemp?
Thank ya.

That cooler may be a little underpowered at the higher volts/freqs. You running the fan at full speed? Maybe check your TIM application.

CoreTemp is pretty accurate, since it is just reading what the CPU sensors are reporting. The auto-overclocking sometimes gives too much Vcore for a given overclock (it errs on the side of stability), so you might be able to reduce the volts a bit by overclocking through the BIOS instead.
