i7 2700K Delidding

I've run my old i7 2700K with a healthy 4.7GHz clock for the past few years on a custom water cooling loop.
So last week in persuit of cooler temps I lapped the IHS with acceptable results (a few c. knocked off in temp) and I then decided to do a follow up and delid it as well.

But before doing this I did a trail and error on a i5 2500 (non K) wich worked out just great (will post pics later) - YES it's soldered but can be done.

But last night when I used the same process on my old trusty i7 2700K it got a little too hot I guess outcome... The 2700K did not survive due to too much heat.


Anyone got an old i7 3770K, 2700K, 2600K laying around collecting dust ?

Sorry that it exploded, but it looks like you did a damned fine bit of work on it!

Thanks yup too bad it died... but at least im pretty sure why it died on me, well due to too much heat, but the box cutter blades where not inserted deep enough to wedge it off fast enough when the temp was high enough for the solder to melt.

Adding pics to compare from my i5 2500 test - This one is alive and well... but alas it's an i5 non K version... will not use this

Currently running a delidded i5 3470 @ 3985Mhz but it suck's compared to the old i7 2700K wich I had running a stable 5GHz just before delidding, wanted to delid to knock of a good more 5c and for the [H] of it
