Why is the IHS on the 2600K banged up?

I just took a look at my other i7-2600 (non k) processor and it has the same marks so I'm guessing when the heat sink is clamped down it makes those marks. If I had to describe it it's not a chip but like a scuff causing it to be shinier than the rest of the heatspreader
