I wasn't really sure which forum to put this in so I'm posting it here. Is there anyone who can actually get GTA4 to run 100% butter smooth? My specs:

i5 750 @ 4.2ghz
4gb g.skill trident @1680 7-7-7-18
hd5850 stock

Running the benchmark with all settings high/very high, detail distance and view distance at 50% and car density at 100% I get 60 frames in the benchmark which runs completely smooth but in game I still get slight stuttering fairly often. It's not quite a sharp jerky instant start stop kind of stuttering, and the framerate is fine.

The game still runs fantastic and I'm having too much fun to really care, but just out of curiosity, is there a system that can actually run GTA4 perfectly?

The [H] has a review of GTA4 read up you'll get some idea of what happens.

perhaps the stuttering is being caused by loading. maybe you should try defragging or moving the game to a faster hdd.

I can't play GTA IV 'Episodes from Liberty City' on my watercooled i7 920 setup... even when OC'd to 4.2 GHz + me running a HD 5870, it just stutters every other second and textures pop in and out, sometimes the roads disappear etc.

I don't think any machine can run GTA IV properly after the recent patches... bad console port is bad.

Yeah, cutscenes freeze my system for 2 seconds every few seconds. Like a hard freeze where the mouse stops working. Extremely annoying.

The game performance is fucked, just give up on the idea of graphics perfection.

gta 4 doesnt run completely smooth on my system either...i really notice it while driving around. not as much when im on foot. im patched to the latest version on steam. fps is good...it just stutters every once in a while. i have not tried it since i upgraded to catalyst 10.5 though...

rig in sig should fully capable of running it smoothly methinks. bad console port!

A i5 750 at 4.2 is well within line of a i7 overclocked. The game is terribly coded, performs piss poor on anything less than quad core (and then still performs piss poor), and actually looks like ass. Why is everybody still obsessed over this game? Just Cause 2 is 20 x more fun imo and runs remarkably better.

that game is horrible on pc. It laggs no matter what kind of system you have. Unless you have like 3 ssds in raid and dual 5870s and a 980x at like 4ghz
