i5 4670K temps compared to AMD 965?

I've been reading that the Haswell 4670K/4770K run at higher temps compared to their older Intel counter parts, however, I can not seem to find any benchmarks which compare them temperature wise to the AMD 965/Phenom IIs. I am wondering if the Haswells (at stock) run hotter, cooler or about the same as a Phenom II 125 watt at stock?

Waiting on my RAM, but I will be moving from a AMD 965 to a 4670K and I am just wondering what temps I should expect. I will be reusing the same Xigmatek Gaia cooler.

I've had both and at stock idle and moderate load the 4670 runs considerably cooler, no question. When pushed or overclocked the 965 runs cooler.

Yeah the haswell chips run hot. I'm sticking to my i7 IVB and 965( OLD IS GOLD )!

Yeah the haswell chips run hot.

Remember that even though it will run hotter (when pushed) it does use less than 1/2 the power of the 965 and thus gives off less than 1/2 the heat.

Thanks for the reply. If I were to push the 4670K to around 4GHZ, roughly how much hotter do you think it will get compared to a stock AMD 965?

Does this matter? The 4670K is designed to run at a much higher max temperature. And since it uses less power it will not use as much electricity as the 965 or heat a room as much.

While that is nice, I would like to see some numbers. Even googling 6-7 benchmarks of the Haswell none seem to record temperatures. People claim it runs much hotter than the Sandy/Ivy bridge yet don't post the temperature difference. Hopefully it is gross over exaggeration, as I do plan to OC to 4GHZ. Don't want to get another cooler. :p

Depends on your chip, 4Ghz isn't really that much of an overclock. So unless you have to use a lot of voltage at that speed the chip should run pretty cool. Haswell seems to run about 5-10C hotter than ivy in my experience and about 15-20C hotter than sandy at similar speed/voltage.

 The Sandy Bridge CPUs certainly were great CPUs. Well, got my 4670K installed. Checking everything out, will see how it runs soon.
