i5-430UM question??

can it turbo boost both cores?

Yes the Core i5-430UM can turbo boost both cores. I couldn't find this model in the Intel spec sheet that usually shows all the details so I looked in the Wiki entry for the Core i5.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i5_microprocessors

The default multiplier for these CPUs is 9. When 1 core is in the active state and the second core is in the C3/C6 sleep state, the maximum turbo boost is an increase of 4 in the multiplier up to a total of 13. When both cores are in the active state, the maximum multiplier can increase to 2 more than the default multiplier for a total of 11.

9 x 133 = 1200 MHz
11 x 133 = 1463 MHz
13 x 133 = 1729 MHz

The reality is that threads and cores are constantly, hundreds of times a second entering and exiting the awake and sleep state so the multiplier will be constantly varying. Use a program like ThrottleStop and it will show you exactly what each of your threads are up to. Here is the most recent version.

I just got finished today working on a new feature for the UM processors. Over at the Notebook Review forums users of Alienware M11x laptops have reported full load CPU performance gains of 50% in their Core i5 and Core i7 dual core UM CPUs. If you would like to know more head there:

I'm not sure if you are interested in power savings or performance. If you want more performance from your little UM processor then you need to check out that thread.
