my set up is
dont worry about airflow, theres insane ammounts of fresh air.

asus p8z77 LK
Intel i5-3570k
hyper 212 evo with push pull and direct exhaust and fresh intake.
Gtx550ti ( dont think it matters ect ect)

Im running at x48.0 @ 100mhz *4.8ghz* @ 1.45 volts... Temps seem to be fine as well... Is this voltage way too high? only way i can get my CPU stable... been running for 8 hours now....
 
CPU according to Speedfan 4.47 says 30C
 
I would run 1.45 24/7 if my temps were in check. Ivy is a new chip design and intel says 1.52. Whether it is true or not only time will tell. Keep running at 1.45 and you can become a data point for us to see if it is indeed alright.
 
1.45v on vcore voltage seems extremely high for that CPU.

I've seen many i5-3570k stable 4.5GHZ with 1.2v on vcore.

What are your other main board bios voltage/power settings?

What program are you stressing your CPU with? LinX? Prime 95? AVX enabled with Windows 7 SP1?
 
He is running at 4.8GHz sonda5.

While having the vcore at 1.45v is a bit high for that multi on average (4.8 needs about 1.36v on mine), it is believable if he doesn't have an awesome chip. I bet he could get 4.5 stable with 1.2v or just a touch more with that chip. Most people can't tell the difference between those speeds in anything but benchmarks or if their "points per day" from folding is lower.

What vcore you run is up to you, it is your chip.

There just isn't enough data to say "this is o.k." to any particular vcore yet. We may find in 2 years that everyone that has gone past 1.2v has degraded their chip.

I am running 1.36v at 4.8GHz right now and my temps are right up about 95 degrees in prime but never get past 65 in daily usage.
 
Feel bad for you guys, At 5Ghz mine doesn't barely ever crosses 70C :p
But of coure it's delidded.

Without listing all BIOS voltage settings and power saving feature settings its really hard to tell if 1.45v is being used under load. Power saving adjustments and other voltage settings can change voltage setting when under load.

It would be helpful to know what stress testing program is being used to test for stability.


1.45v seems like way to much voltage from what I have seen to date for i5-3570k over clocked at this speed and the temps seem way to low for this high amount of voltage.

I am going to assume that 30 degrees is his idle temp and by giving that to us it says to me that he should not be overclocking without some major help.
 
i ended up tweaking the bios alittle more. And yes that was idle and i wasnt thinking right last night. i sit @ 60 degrees @ 4.7ghz @ 1.37 now under load from intel burn test. im not infront of the computer but im alot more comfortable @ 1.37. the .1ghz isnt worth it.
Edit: underload @ 1.45 i hit 79 degrees

when i Get home in a few hours ill post more exact Temps/Volts ect ect

I have awesome airflow, push/pull fans with a exhaust 2 inches from the exhaust side. hows your airflow?

Under Intel Burn test with those voltages and speeds that looks great.

Are you running the latest AVX update? Windows 7 SP1?


Intel Burn Test supports AVX and it improves gflop performance and increases heat.


I would try to lower vcore a little more. I'd like to know your BIOS power saving feature settings and other voltage settings. Also what is your RAM clocked? RAM voltage? PLL voltage? IO voltage?
 
What you guys with delidded processors use for coolers? Anything that bolts through fine?

Intel doesn't say 1.52V is fine. All Intel says is that 1.52V is the highest voltage coded into the VID table. They make no cliam that it is a safe voltage.

You could have a goddamn hurricane blowing inside your case and you won't be able to do 4.8ghz @1.45v full load @ 30c.

And airflow inside my case is just peachy. The airflow is also mostly a non-issue, with the watercooling.

edit: I see where you said that was idle now.
