i5-2500k voltage too high?

I have an i5-2500k that's overclocked to 4ghz with vcore on auto.

it runs around 1.36v

setting the vcore manually to 1.2v doesnt seem to actually do anything.

i have an MSI Z77A-G45 thunderbolt mobo and help would be appreciated on the following:

is 1.36v too high for a 4ghz overclock on this chip? seems high but I don't really know.

I'm using an OCGenie profile for overclocking. how can i properly undervolt with this?

vdroop options are: Auto, +12.5%, +25%, ... (12.5% increments)... +100% - weird to me that it's expressed as a positive percentage, what should i do with this setting?
 
Ugh.. that voltage its extremely high for such low overclock that can be achieved even at stock voltages.. 1.35v its what a average overclocker 2500k require for 4.5-4-7ghz (some good overclockers at 4.8ghz require even less than 1.32v).. vdroop its positive because its percantage added of voltage delivered to the chip to maintain it the voltage set tight as possible, never use motherboards auto-overclock features as it will always overvolt your chip... reset BIOS to default and just increase the multiplier again to 40 its that your desired speed and then apply a negative offset of 0.005 just to keep the voltage locked at minimum possible under load. then run some prime95 small FFT test, remember to check voltages with CPU-Z and temperatures of the cores you can use core temp or real temp.. and then report back to see how you went... but if voltages are still too high you can start to increase the negative offset.. just an example i've had a 2600k that work flawlessly at 4.5ghz with a LLC(vdroop in your board) of 25% and a offset of -0.070v it draw under heavy load just 1.31v but the 2600k draw more power due to HyperThreading...
 
bro. Been running my i7-2700k @ 1.5 for two years solid. voltage its overrated

because you are lucky that does not mean all chip perform equal, some chips die even at the first time they touch 1.5v, others can last long time but are quickly degraded and start to require more voltage even when have some months at +1.45v specially if are fixed voltage, offset voltage help a lot, A LOT with this issue and make the chip last longer... if you don't believe in the electromigration then you are fool..
 
EDIT: dang. I wasn't looking at the vcore in HWMonitor. Vcore is 1.16ish with bios setting for vcore 1.2 and vdroop of 25%, it's the VID that is getting up to 1.36 what's VID?

edit 2: starting to wonder if i ended up with an exceptional chip. with a 4ghz OC, running small FFT on prime 95, my vcore is super stable at 1.12 and my temps are maxing at 51c with a hyper 212 evo


it is basically just a multiplier change, voltage is auto by default

on my board there is NO voltage offset. glad to know it's too high, i will try to change the vdroop and fixed voltage again and see what i can get
