If you were overclocking these CPU's, which would you use?

the 2100 can OC 4 bins higher to around 3.5ghz, but has a better overall architecture.

the 550 can OC to 4ghz+, but needs to reach a certain point to surpass the OC'd 2100.

this isn't a budget issue. im aware of getting other processors for X dollars more. i just need an opinion on this situation.

IIRC sandy bridge is arround 10% faster than nahelm clock for clock so with the 550 @ 4GHz I would expect you to be seeing about equal performance. If you can crank it beyond that I would expect it to give better performance.

OTOH the 2100 would be using less power and would be buying into a new platform rather than a dying one.

Can you overclock the 2100 via multiplier? The SB i3's have no turbo boost. They don't have the same +4 bin as the other chips, do they?. You can up the BLCK, but you're extremely limited in the amount(+5-7?).

I agree with TomGreen321, you can only up the blck on the 2100.
It would be great if we'd see an i3 2100k.

The 2100 has AES-NI and AVX. If you don't need those and plan on overclocking, the 550 can run 4.5ghz+ with ease. Something to keep in mind.

hmm actually i might be wrong. i guess since the 2100 has no turbo core you might not even be able to push it past 3.1.... ok nvm that solves it then.
