I have an i3 550 that I want to overclock. I have a few different motherboards (GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3, Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R , MSI P55M-GD45)
I will not be using the onboard graphics (obviously these boards do not support onboard graphics).

Anyone know if there is a guide or links to other peoples oc methods and results out there?
Thanks

If you want any experience with OCing the Clarkdale then i might share you some as i successfully OCed my i3 530 to 4.5GHz stable.

I personally hate the BIOS layout of Gigabyte mainboards but i'll try to help you with the settings.

Thanks, If you gan help me with the settings I can probably navigate the bios pretty well to find the correct section to modify.
I am not at home to work on it now if you want to post some of your settings (or send in a PM) now I can try working on it when I get home.

Thanks again

I'm not at home (in my mom's hometown atm) so i can't get you a detail picture on my setting.
But i can remember most of them so i'll try.

You need to do some basic task like disable CPU and PCIe Spread Spectrum, enable Loadline calibration.

For voltage setting,i'd recommend:
CPU:1.25v
PLL:1.9v
IMC:1.35v
RAM:1.6v
PCH(the P55 chipset):1.05v
BLCK:RAM ratio 4:16 (for some strange reason, the 4:20 ratio gives you higher RAM frequency but also reduces the bandwidth)

Depends on your CPU,you can go to 4GHz easily with the above settings.
My 530 is running @4.3GHz (195x22) with the following setting:
Vcore:1.34
IMC:1.3
vRAM:1.55
PLL:1.9
PCH:1.05
RAM's running @1580 9-9-9-24
From my experience, the Clarkdale can go 4GHz with pretty low voltage(i get it stable @4GHz with 1.23v).But when you hit the 4.2GHz mark, they'll begin to require lot of voltage.

If you experience something like mouse lagging/freezing then you can raise the PCH voltage a bit,but i think 1.05v is enough.

Still haven't gotten to try this... I was playing with my i7 2600k rig last night. I'll let you know when I do get it hooked up.

Just for reference :D

My MSI P55-GD45 won't clock stable over 3.8 on my 550. I have ddr3 hyperex 1600 ram and everything seems within spec but it just keeps blue screening on me. This same board brought my 860 up to 4.2 ghz easy.

Any thoughts?

That is what I figured. I have 3 other gigabyte boards but was wanting to use my MSI (because it is amATX and the case I am working with is mATX. I didn't want to break down my 2600k setup to play with this if I don't have to.

Strangely, even the MSI OC Genie function just goes into an endless loop of restarting with the i3 550. I find that generally the OC Genie sets voltages higher than I'd like but it does usually provide a decent baseline.

You can easily get these chips over 5GHz with decent cooling. Any of Gigabyte's cheapest mb's will suffice.

By 'decent' you meant these pile of fans and cooling? And 1.616v vcore?

@OP:What is your IMC and PLL voltage?

I originally tried settings as listed in your previous posting. That resulted in pretty consistent blue screening.
That is when I went to the OC Genie and got stuck in the restart loop on the i550 (worked fine on the i5 750 and i7 860).
I'm kinda at a loss.

That's interesting.Because that's pretty much the base setting for all the i3 5xx series.Did you lower the QPI frequency to its lowest value, along with the BCLK:RAM ratio?
