I wish AMD would buy nVidia...

Motherboards with integrated nVidia video chipsets would be sweet. Intel has a good idea, but a horrible graphics chipset (for gaming at least). A motherboard by AMD with an onboard 6200 TC would be SWEET for some people I know (mostly internet users, occasional games but nothing serious). Could this ever happen? Or am I dreaming...

Why couldn't nVidia just make one? IIRC they are planning on it already since ATi has the x300 IGP.

AMD wouldnt have to buy nvidia

look at the nforce chipsets that have IGPs theyre usually nvidia.

Wouldn't every nForvce chipset with an IGP be nVidia?

The nvidia C51 chipsets are already coming out soon. :p http://www.nforcershq.com/article2892.html

AMD couldn't afford to buy nvidia anyways. They can't even afford the fab 30 and fab 36.

I havent seen one yet that isnt, but it wouldnt be hard for a manufacturer to combine a nvidia chipset with a third party IGP in a seperate chip. Wouldnt be much point, mostly I was just covering my bases in case something was released that I wasnt aware of :p

Why does everyone want everyone to buy everyone out

Without competition things stagnate.

Just look at Creative Labs.

Well there is that remote chance mentioned in the news on the [H] page that ATi is going under. AMD was mentioned in the possible buyers list.

AMD barely make profits

Good to see you still don't have to have a clue about what you are talking about to comment in the videocard section.

[ladies man voice]No, thats the opposite, they be losing a ton of money, thats too bad, yeah.[/ladies man voice]

Does this mean that they are making money?

Or this:

No what that means is just becuse they aren't posting a net profit doesn't mean they can't afford a FAB. However, these topics are far to involved for places like this. Rarely do economics, and corporate accouinting get analyzed correctly on the best of places let alone here in the videocard forum.....which seems to be ground zero for product x is teh shit product y is the devil.

ignore year over year. AMD split off the flash unit and that skews YOY results.

But with or without flash sales, AMD can't afford their fabs. :D Next year might be different -- if they can increase their marketshare. If they are stuck at 16-18% next year, it will be a disaster as fab 36 starts production.

AMD manufactures processors...they can't merge..it would screw up the market.

Yup. Just think of all the progress on the CPU front, the GPU front. And sound is hardly much farther now than it was 6 years ago. Honestly, I've now had my Live! Value go through 3 different setups, and its still very much adequate. Considering how little Audigy1,2,4 really represent in terms of advances, maybe Creative's next release may actually be worth an upgrade?

I mean, remember when moving from Sound Blaster 16 to AWE64 was a relatively big move? Then again, it was also me going from 3.1 to 95 at that time too haha.

I just wish they would do what they could to bring SCSI HDD's to the mainstream. That's one of the biggest bottlenecks of our time, stupid 7200RPM SATA drives.

Now, i havent read all 2? pages cause im sure with video card posts it ends up changing into some lame flame war, but since i read this post, i want to argree with that

you people dont realize, it helps US= the end user, with competiation to be the best, AMD, Intel, Nvida, ATI, all work double time to pump out new shizzle, because of competation, therfore we get bad ass shizzle to put in our rigs........otherwise itd be all medorcore sp* crap coming out......

there inlies the problem, since there is so much compeitation, people force stuff to be launched, drivers arent fully tested, cards arent fully testest, things get fubr, but though thick and thin this helps us out, the end user, so why in the world would you want 1 company doing it all? itd be crap~ plain and simple

and sorry if you cant understand my spelling, i really suck at it, and i appoligize, never really worked hard on spelling or gramer :p
dam vbulitien for not having spell checker :(

the RPM is only half the problems with hard drives being bottle neckers~

I know having parts that can access the platters fast enough are an issue, but gosh, how long as high speed SCSI been around?

Oh well. Maybe with 45nm and beyond for SRAM, we'll see large flash HDD's.

I agree. The Raptor is nice but I still would like faster. Since Hard drives are the slowest part of the computer by a large margin, I would like to see more 15K and 20K RPM HDDs. Bigger Caches, and wider bus' Before we eventually make the move to complete solid state

i can't wait for my first AMDidia integrated video 4200+X!

(The X stands for GFX!)

it'll make the hypertransports run at 75fps! even word will run at a respectable 62fps!

Is this a related STD to the great and wonderful Chlamydia?

you're actually right! i have read that AMDidia was inadvertently created when a lonely gamer with chlamydia (don't ask me how he got it because i don't have an explanation), was tempted enough to treat his AMD/GeForce4000 PC as "something more." they had a long relationship, but his chlamydia was transmitted to the PC and thus, AMDidia was born.

in the near future, a special security measure will be instituted for all AMD/nVIDIA PCs in the form of a latex sheet to be placed over the ethernet port before insertion of the male connector!

At least someone here understands things...

If you hate nVidia or AMD or ATI or Intel because you think their products are crap, and your favorite competitor buys them out or what not, what do you think is going to motivate your favorite compnay (which now no longer has competition) to make better products?

Even if you are a !!!!!! for some company, you should at least be happy their competition exists because otherwise they probably wouldn't give a damn about making good products for a fair price.

Merging = good for the shareholder and bad for the consumer.
