holy crap thats cool, but its bound to be kinda loud with the cooling stuff you would have to have in there to keep two opterons and a high end graphics card cool...

id like to see the inside, im wondering how they fit all that on a mini-itx board

My problem with this is that both DIMM's run off the same CPU, so your 2nd CPU has to send all memory requests through the main CPU. Effectively, this gives you half the memory performance of a standard dual op configuration, less depending on how much work CPU #1 has to do or how long it has to wait while delivering data over to CPU #2.

good point, but it will still be very powerfull
 
Are you talking about NUMA? You need Win2k3 Server to even take advantage of that. It's really a non-issue with the memory access. CPU0 accesses memory with the built-in controller and CPU1 connects to CPU0 via HTT which is quite fast. The only shortcoming might be the 2GB RAM limitation, but to me it seems like they nailed it. I am very tempted to purchase one...

Numa just makes the OS aware of which cpu a thread's memory lives on. It makes a considerable difference in performance in high IO applications, but won't matter in this case as ALL of cpu1's memory lives on cpu0. I haven't seen a multithreaded high IO benchmark that puts this system against a standard dual opteron, but it would be easy for someone with a dual opt to check it out - do a benchmark, then move all your memory to one bank, and run the same benchmark again. I'll try this next week when I get some new servers in and see how it does.

Think about it this way - with a normal dual opt system you have 4 memory channels (2 per cpu) with this system you only have two

And Linux 2.6 does NUMA also, don't forget about that :)
 
I'm actually already saving up for one of those beasts, and plan on replacing the standard cooling in it with a pint-sized watercooling solution for the opterons and a high-end GFX, just have to wait on it to find out where to cram the pump and possibly a small reservoir in. That's gonna be a challenge =]

in all honesty, that's the point that's killing this.

#1. you only get the case, power supply and mainboard. add 35.00 for the wireless antennae.

#2. you're only going to see a price drop when items are purchased in quantities of 50+. hehehe. btw, these are a limited production run. April will be volume.

Anything going to be massively different between the current limited run and the mass production run starting up? I'm sort of wondering, since there's no way I'll be able to afford it before you've said the mass run starts up.

price MAY go down by then, but...Iwill has always been a little $$$
