Right now the fan I have on my Pentium D is extremely loud.....what cooling can i get for it to make it virtually silent? I'm tired of hearing that jet take off and stay in air while the computer is on.......would water cooling be the answer? please help

Try a Zalman CNPS 7700 CU, a Zalman VF900, and a Seasonic PSU. Your pc will be pretty damn silent after that.

Scythe Ninja heat sink with a Yate-Loon 120mm fan. There's your silence. (if you're not overclocking your CPU you may even be able to mount the HS without a fan!)

FYI, the VF900 is a video card cooler.

one vote for water... ocing and silence... just ask my bip3 and 5volted yate SL's

Thermalright XP-120 with a Nexus 120mm Real Silent Fan. Working great for me. I'm using speedfan as well. My CPU and rear fan both sit around 700-800 RPM most of the time.

I Vote On The Gigabyte 3d Rocket Runs Quite At 100 % But It Comes With A Speed Pot For The Back Of Case.

In other words... there are a TON of options to choose from and you're certain to find your preference. :D

If you really want total silence, you have to watercool. Even the most silent of silent fans makes a little noise (not motor noise, but just air moving noise), and water makes no noise. So that's the way to go.
If you don't want to watercool, you should go with Nexus or Yate Loon 120 mm fans (they're the same thing, just different colors) and any heatsink that can have a 120 mm fan mounted on it. Definitely the Scythe Ninja or Thermalright xp-120.
And I second whoever voted for the Zalman cooler for the video card, though there are silent VGA heatsinks out there, one of which is from Thermalright.

download speedfan to control the rpms of that fan. i had the same problem, it would spin at like 5,000 rpm and this even if the temp was 29c. i could feel the ground vibrating next to the comp...it was annoying as hell and loud. i downloaded speed fan, lowerd it 60% and now its 2,500 rpm and its MUCH quiter. and temp is still under 35c.

Don't!

Go here:

Read up, and build yourself a custom loop. You won't regret doing it yourself instead of buying a kit. This way, you get to balance cost, performance, noise. Also, you will be happy when you realize that all you have to do is get a new waterblock at most for a new CPU socket or a new GPU mounting method.

I thought more people on this forum would know about the Akasa Amber series fans, they are probably the quietest fans out there without undervolting, look cool and still move a decent amount of air.

ooorrr....you could get the scythe S-flex if you are willing to spend that much.

I've read a very positive review of this fan but couldn't find where to buy it. Thanks for the link. Do you have any personal experience with this fan? I've got the Yate-Loon 120mm fan and I can't imagine getting a quieter one than that.

I haven't used it yet...sorry, but my freind did and he says is is very quiet. There is one small problem if you want to undervolt it though, at some points it will make a high pitched noise, but if you turn the knob on your controller a touch it will go away. It looks like there are small ...unsweetspots, lol.

Not necessarily. Even if you water cool, you should still have some case fans to cool the rest of the components in there. There's also the radiator fan(s) and maaaybe the pump, depending on which one is chosen, but the pump is usually pretty silent.
