I want an external equalizer!

I am making a new case. I have some Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX speakers on the way. I am way into my music! I would like to get an external equalizer that would hook up to the speakers I listed above. Then I would like to mod that into my case.

Any help?

one for a car would be interesting actually.. they run off 12 volts just like a computer... and some can give you real good sound quality... but the problem is a good one is probably $200+ .. you can get an optimus brand at ratshack for cheap..

What if I were to take one out of an old reciever or something? Like from one from goodwill?

Would I lose a great deal of sound quality?
 
the equalizer would have to have been of good quality to begin with... and it woulnd't be that simple... you would have to power the equalizer.. EQ's are pretty complicated....
 
Actually EQ's are pretty simple opamp circuits.
The problem here is the power and noise inside a computer make it a pretty bad place for an EQ. ;)

The NewQ sucks. I had one. Don't but it - doesn't match with anything and doesn't sound good.
 
My first question is why do you need an external EQ?

Generally EQ do more harm than good, particularly if you use one without any type of equipment to calibrate it. Also if it is not of high quality it will generally make the sound much worse.

EQs are meant to flatten the response curve and generally should only be used to compensate for room issues and minor speaker issues.

With small budgets you are much better off with digital EQs, and Parametric EQs are better since you can tailor to your needs better.

For computer audio you are better off without the EQ.

I guess I will just have to go with an LCD screen in my case and put winamp's equalizer on that...

Or are there an other good programs that have an equalizer?

I recomend using foobar with it's eq. Another option is if you have an audigy download the kx drivers and use the eq in the kx dsp chain.
 
wait... do you want an eq or a spectrum analyser? cause your talking about an LCD so im not sure now

oh yeah, sorry about the :confused:

I am going to run foobar or winamp in the lcd screen and use that as my eq.
 
An equalizer is used to flatten the response curve of your equipment. Making speakers with a flat response curve is very difficult and very expensive, so an equalizer is used to help with that. A flat curve is desireable because it most truely represents what the original recording engineers intended. Any deviation from that flat response curve colors the sound. That being said, I don't think the best equalizer in the world could make a set of multimedia speakers sound decent.

edit: environmental characteristics such as room size and shape, as well as furniture and other things in the room can change the sound that you hear, so an equalizer can help to level off that as well.

edit2: if you don't understand what an equalizer does and how to properly use it then don't use it. You will probably only make everything sound worse than without the equalizer.
 
there is no benefit, i just adds distortion...unless u have really shitty speakers and need to over compensate. At worst case use the eq within winamp or something
 
Yeh don't waste cash on an EQ, just go get an M-Audio Revo and enjoy the best sound you can get from your computer with those speakers.
