Alright. I'm feeling ballsy, and got all my important data backed up. I've got a single 120GB 7200.7 and I wanna add another. I wanna see what's so raving about this striped performance :D I know it's nothing special (5400rpm->7200rpm->10000rpm) but the ability has been there and staring at my face ... so I wanna dive in!

Do I have to wipe my current HDD and install? Do I have to reformat?

No one's raving anymore, because the myth was debunked. It's not any faster, and your data is much more at risk.

However, should you choose that path, you'll need to format and re-install.

I am a Scary Rabbit - and I approve this message. ;)

Seriously, striping does nthing for you. If you are dead set on trying it - please run some benches before and after. Time some program starts, etc... "Feeling" it is faster, will only lead to circular arguments without a baseline.
 
Well as long as it "feels" faster for me, I couldn't care less about proving it to others :) But I trust you guys' judgement. No point spending money on another HDD if I don't need to :) Though 240GB sounds nice....
 
You can always mount the second drive into an empty NTFS folder if you want easy access via a single drive letter.
 
It's definitely not worth it if you'd have to buy a second drive specifically for this purpose.
 
If you want to have 2 drives appear as 1 but not in a RAID0, just set them up as a JBOD.

(Just a Bunch Of Disks)
 
Heheh... I was gonna partition them anyway, I just liked the idea of writing to two HDDs at once instead of just one. Anyway, I'm gonna forgo it. I was planning on selling my 80 and getting a 120... but I'm just gonna sell off my 80. I was mainly disappointed at the large CPU usage of the nf3-250 controller.
