today i was trying to transfer my files to my new raptor when all of a sudden the thing just automatically shut off and wouldnt boot to windows. It didnt go past the load screen, so like any other person my thought was just to reload a fresh batch of windows xp on the sucker. Lo and behold it wouldnt even go past the windows setup screen and would just freeze in the middle of the setup. tried 4 other windows cds laying around the house and still nothing worked. Worried that i had already fried not only my new raptor but my trusty seagate i unscrewed the harddrives from the cages. As i was looking over the seagate HD i glimpsed over the fineprint on the drive, and it said "dont overtighten the harddrive." apparently i was up for anything right now so i basically tried loading windows without mounting it and to my surprise it actually loaded and is working fine.

I never really tighten my harddrives, but this is the first weird fuck up thats ever happend to me. I guess it was the luck of the raptors afraid of the noisy seek times i probably screwed a little too much but, how can that really affect drives being able to work?

at least im kinda of releived now after 5 hours of trying to figure this out and not being able to study for my physics test due to a stupid screw that has ended up screwing me over.

Most non-cheap cases these days come with little rubber washers for the screw holes on the drive cages. It's primarily to reduce noise via drive vibration but it would obviously solve this problem as well.

you mean the thick rubber grommets yes, i was using that along with the screws on my p180b.
