right in the middle of the screen, only shows up on light colored stuff as a black dot.

since i have a Dell LCD, i can just give them a call, and they will send me out a new one, right?
 
If less than 30 days, yes Dell will ship out a new one. but if over 30 days, they may ship a refurb.
 
Contact Dell for an RMA. Tell them it's real annoying to have a dead pixel in the middle of the screen.
 
Give Dell a call, they will send you a new one. However, it might have even more dead pixels, but that's always a risk isn't it?
 
I'd probably think twice about swapping it for one unlit pixel.
You could send it back, but that's a huge pain and it's very likely the next one will be worse. You might get one with a pixel that's stuck green for example. An unlit pixel or two is the least annoying defect an LCD can have, and perfect ones are pretty rare.
