Just upgraded my rig yesterday and started having some probs.

AMD +3000 Venice
MSI Neo Plat 4
2 gig OCZ 4000ddr gamers ram
ATI 800 XL------------------------------------->Upgraded to the x1800xt 512
120 gig seagate drive
stock socket 939 fan----------------------->thermatake big typhoon
"Maddog surepower 400 watt PSU"

Symptoms

1.Computer locks up right at beginning "Microsoft Xp Screen" right after bios boots (faint image of he screen)

2. When it does finally boot after reset sometimes get a distorted screen, its frozen)

3. After i can get it fully booted i check the cpu temp( that Tt Big tephoons worjks great 32 c . but big Tt Big typhoon drops from 1300 rpm to 700 rpms. ?

4. o try to overclock (from 1.8 to 2.0) using the bios or the MSI cell it makes a strange noise then locks up.

it has always OC to that speed before the upgrade.

Future down the line i will try to add a crossfireboard and another 1800xt.

maybe a bad video card? have u tested it (the new one) in another machine?

That's where I'm leaning. I'd hate to think of you running out, buying a PSU (which may be eventually needed anyways because you're planning on a second x1800 ) and then find that you still have a problem....

I bought the card from newegg so im sure an rma wouldnt be a prob. Only reason i think it might be the psu is the fact the comp cant handle the overclock. Also it wouldnt turn on when i had both 120 gigs HD in there, but the second i unplugged the 2nd one it booted.

now my mind and fingers are exhausted in trying to find the right PSU. I loved all the recomendations so far as all are great. :)

still looking, i have all the suggerstions in seperate windows and itching to press "ADD TO CART"

a comparison of the ones im looking at

is there a difference between 2 12v rails and 3 12 rails in terms of actually being useful
was thinking about this one

Stay the hell away from the NeoHE 500 That is one POS of a PSU (i'm thinking of taking mine with a sledgehammer). If you're willing to go 20 bucks overbudget, I'd get the EPS12v Antec Truepower 2.0.

Truepowers are solid PSUs. NeoHEs are not.
The OCZ should also suit your needs well.
