Hello all just letting you know after a few years of folding i just stopped an hour ago.. i may go back into it in an year or so though. Reason why i quite is because i really don't see the project going anywhere. Plus here in Texas we are already in 80s for the temperature!! It is hot!!!!! :mad: Then my ps3 and 9800gtx+ only gets around 3000ppd MAX and with the heat it outputs not worth it. But best of luck to you guys who are still folding :)

 
The door will always be open for when it cools down for you. Dont be a stranger, drop in from time to time.
 
It is sad to see you go. Maybe consider dropping in at the start of May for the chimp challenge? We can use all the help we can get for that.
 
Sad to see ya go. Do please stop by in May like Wheresatom mentioned. I just powered down much of my farm too mostly due to power bill growing and its starting to warm up here in south Alabama too. I'm keeping it all prepped and ready to crank back up for the chimp challenge though.
 
It's always sad to see a folder drop out, though with that sort of heat it's quite understandable. Remember though, active or not you're always welcome to drop by and say hi.
 
sure i will help out with the may challenge :) however it will only be my 9800gtx+ ps3 will be too hot for may haha, but better then nothing teh? :D
 
sounds like about 4 months ago.. i quit everything until finally people got serious about boinc in here and i became re-interested in it all over again.. sucks to see ya go but i totally understand with the reasons..
 
I understand the heat issues! it's been in the 70's here in so cal already:( I am hoping it doesn't get to bad this summer!
 
not to bug in here, but you should get more PPD out of the 9800GTX than that, closer to 5-6k I'd say
 
I understand the heat! It was 85f here yesterday in Okiehoma. We call it Indian Summer. May sleet or snow to night. Go figure! Its been so warm here I've dropped the OC's on my 260's to stock setting on the quad box. Had to turn the A/C on last night just to bust the humidity and cool the house down. I don't look forward to running the A/C 24/7. Between my fish tanks. puters on my home being a old craftsman style, not modern place of dwelling. Uber electric is what it is. thank GOD Okiehome is cheap compared to most.

When you feel you can fold again. Please come back!

A mere 159 PPD on an overclocked A64 Sempron 2800+ @ 2.4 ghz. Project 4455 Gromac.

I dunno, cpu folding on older rigs just doesn't seem worth the electricity any more.
 
Hey brother nvidiapwnsati don't sweat the small stuff. :rolleyes: Come back when you are comfortable with your light bill and heat situation and only if you want to. :D I can certainly see where you are coming from with the electric bill and heat thing. I've had to shut down a couple of boxen because I couldn't swing the light bill. I've even got external WCing containers ducted with carboard (rad, fans, pump and rez) sitting on my window sill trying to prepare for another hot summer :(. The 2x Q6600 boxen I have left are folding with the GPU2 client and WCGing with the WCG clients 24/7.

Oh yeah, don't forget to drop in once in a while. We're all one big, most of the time, happy family and we never forget a brother or sister DCer ;)

you could always do what I do and take the folding machines to work and put them in the server room...lol.

.............and yes, it is nice to be the sys admin and have a personal little candy room to stash all my goodness.
 
You should ship all your stuff to Nebraska...its a whopping 22 degrees here today...cheap electricity too :D

 
Ok to clarify, i have no problem with electricity bill, parents pay for that :D heat isn't that bad but it does sometimes get hot when my gpu is 100% usage all the time. The main reason why is because i don't see the project going anywhere.. and i don't have a job *im still in highschool :rolleyes:* so that won't work either heh.. But like i said i will help out in May :D

wow never had that problem before, guess im lucky :) and hopefully i won't get that problem when i help out in May :eek:
 
err from reading here i can't believed i stopped lol so ill be back folding!! Just my 9800gtx+ though :eek: even though i still think the project hasn't gotten anywhere! I enjoy seeing my points go up and my rank getting better! :) So i will be installing fah-gpu tomorrow!

This has always been a 2 decade plus long project. It is not a instant gradification deal.
Glad to have ya back for whatever reason.
