Well, I think I need to upgrade my PC for gaming/video editing purposes...which of the following should I do?

PLAN A:

Try to talk parents into $1,000 limit PC

or

PLAN B:

Just upgrade Processor, Motherboard, Case, and PSU

My current Set-Up is

eMachines W2785
AMD Athlon XP 2700+ @ Stock settings (2.18 Ghz/333 Mhz FSB)
1GB PC 2700 DDR-RAM
80 GB HDD
Built By ATI RADEON 9600 PRO
DVD-ROM Drive
DVD+/-R/RW Burner
WinTV Radio by Hauppage
10/100 LAN Card
250 Watt PSU

What should I do guys?
 
yep, upgrade them parts. the ram and harddrive are nice. you might want to get a another bigger harddrive for video edditing.
 
mobo, psu, maybe a 9700 but whats wrong with the Athlon 2700? 2.18 ghz is definately good enough to run 99% of games and video editing software, especially with all that RAM...

i second the bigger HD thing... id how many videos you have edited but before compression they usually get pretty big
 
upgrade the video card to like a 9800 pro for like $216 from newegg and get some storage for the videos.. hdds are always on sale somewhere just shop around.
 
I would just get a better PSU, better video card 9800XT maybe and more HDD. CPU isnt really that bad off.
 
I suggest you keep the RAM, harddrive, optical drives, TV card, and the network card. All I'd upgrade the case, power supply, motherboard and the video card first, and if you have any money left, go for some better ram. I think your best bet would be an Abit NF7-S or an Asus A7N8X Deluxe to push that 2700+ (it's by no means a slouch), and then go for a Sapphire 9800Pro 128MB (around $200 from newegg!). Next in line would be a second hard drive; newegg has 120GB drives from seagate and western digital running around $90-$100 I believe.
 
Upgrade the case and psu. Upgrade the vid card to a 9800 pro. Keep everything else.
