around 150 is pretty much the price for XP PRO OEM, unless you get a few minutes and some priveleges in the Redmond store.;)

A friend of mine had access to the holy inner sanctum and got me my personal XP PRO Full boat for $30.:cool:

When I build computers for clients though I always pay between 150 and 170 depending on if its a newegg special or not.

I''m going tpo be using XP until I absolutely HAVE to switch to Vista. Anyway, I wouldn't buy Vista until SP! or SP2 are out for it, becasue we all know there are going to be some major bugs and security holes when it comes out. :rolleyes:

 
$144 on the egg. I just bought one for my new box. I dig the being legal thing so as long as prices arn't ridiculous I don't mind shelling out. Personally I would definitely not wait for Vista. You won't want to be an early adopter on your main production rig, so you're looking at 18-24 months wait there. That's eternity in computer-years. :p
 
If you're in college you can sometimes pick it up at your college bookstore for a good price.
 
I don't know about you down South from me, but here in Canada EH!, In our Uniersitys or Colleges, I can purchase for next to nothing, a ligit single license for a specific school computer a ligit windows xp pro or win2k license.

I"m talking like $30, its an Academic License, it can be only installed onto 1 pc and only used on that one pc. Don't try anything else with the license key, MS, already knows (I tried :(
 
Nope this is the correct fourm for this... If I was to buy XP I'd get a corp edition with a couple licenses.
 
Just to let you know, you can buy MCE (XP Pro + MCE addon) OEM FULL for $130ish off newegg it hink.

Thats the bad part of about OEM licenses you cannot transfer them from one computer to another and if you ever need to reactivate you have to call where as normal XP doesn't require you to call unless you do it a few times.

From my experiance it's a timing thing, not a matter of OEM vs retail. I have several PC's that have an OEM license and I have reinstalled several times without having to call MS. there have only been a couple of times I have had to call, but that was when I was reinstalling withing a couple of months. This also includes 2003 server.
 
If you are in school what has the Microsoft Licensing thing, you can get it pretty cheap. Mine only cost $5, some with my Office 2003 $5. Man I guess I have it good, since I bought Adobe CS2 for $99...
