I need to know everything about wireless networking

If you setup most security options you'll keep most passer-bys off, however security of the older 802.11b standard aside keep in mind it is suceptible to interference (microwaves, neighbors wifi gear, etc) Treat it as a conveince,
if your going with new gear make sure it has wpa security or higher.
if this is a Big company go with cisco , senao, 3com gear etc
if its just for a home office or less than 20 people dont bother, walmart a linksys.
also keep in mind no matter how well they sugar coat the numbers, nothing beats a slab of copper for raw speed and reliablity.
and last your not gonna learn "Everything" from one thread, google is good.

There is a lot to learn about setting up a wireless network.
Vision is right, enterprise solutions should be Cisco or another major company. SOHO networks should NOT use Linksys. Well, unless you like spending half your time fixing problems and finding workarounds. I recommend Netgear. It's cheaper and more trouble free.
Stay away from .11b completely. It doesn't support WPA and is inherently flawed which is why it is on sale everywhere. It is being fazed out and everyone is clearing their stock.
Most companies included strong support for WPA in .11g. But, sense it was left up to the individual companies to decide how they would implement the standard, it doesn't always work correctly when mixing hardware vendors. So, with that in mind, choose one vendor and stick with it.
The .11i standard was just approved and looks like it will provide the first secure wireless networking standard. Search for it on Google to learn all about it. One thing I can tell you is that it is not compatible at all with WEP.
For now, when setting up security, enable WPA and MAC filtering. The combo of the two will keep all but the most determined and experienced hackers out of your system. Be sure to completely disable WEP as a form of security on the wireless router. If you leave that enabled, a hacker can use a program like AIRSNORT to capture about a million packets and then BOOM, they are in.
Umm, don't use Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) in XP. It is a huge piece of shit. It will loose the connection every few minutes and have to reconnect. Instead, disable WZC in services and use the wireless utility provided by the vendor.
To extend the range of a wireless network, don't immediately decide you need a wireless repeater. You can buy larger antenna's to hook onto the wireless router that can increase the range up you network several miles.
Spend a lot of time reading up on network protocols and hardware troubleshooting. Google will be your best friend.

Go to a barnes&nobles or borders, grab a cup of coffee, then look at all the wonderful books about wireless networks.........Then try them yourself...That in combination with the internet, you will learn. Google is your friend......
