I built this great computer for a guy.. shouldn't have.. but he wanted it... still hasn't payed it all.. i have a 1000 check waiting to be cashed from him... but i have to wait till next month? :(... not cool.. anyways... he calles this morning.. saying he can't get the windows to come up... i'm like O M G .... but yeah... i am goin to kill him... he is 45-1hr away .. soo i have to go after work and pick this system up and try to fix it... i tried to get him in safemode but he is like.. it is stuck it won't go... arh! sooo yeah.. i'm pissed... he is like.. i donno waht happend nobody was in teh room.. it just died.. i'm like... o wonderful... soo yeah.. i gotta check everything... maybe something got knocked loose or somthing overheated and blew up... arh... stupididity..

Don't give it back to him until the check clears. Your not working your ass off for charity...

Be sure to charge him if you find out it is something that he did, otherwise, he will be on the phone to you every time he screws something up expecting free technical support.

i spent 5 hrs with him and the computer giving him instructions on how to scan a document w/ ocr and putting it into a database.. the comptuer worked great for 2+ weeks.. and now ... it just decides to goo poof... no i don't think so... .... blah

....dude, you should have pointed him at Dell....

Serously, I almost "don't" build PC's for "random" folks anymore. Family and "close" friends (that know what C:\ is for). I have gone through several folks that think just because I turned the screws for them, that they get free tech support forever. I had on guy call me at 0100 once for some BS thing that was his fault.....never again. I started not so politely putting my foot down about a year ago. Some people......

Reason why I recommend a Dell or an HP/Compaq to some people. Just because you built the damn thing ... they think you should also teach them how to use it ...

also next time ... make them buy everything ... you just do the assembly ... unless you 100% trust them ...

Agreed ... get money before second delivery after fixed problem.

Definitely. And get this guy a "computers for dummies" book!

i'm done... i have decided to never build another one for anyone that i don't know personally... makes me really mad... this has really turned me away from it...

...in the 5hrs i was there teachin him.... he wrote 5 pages of front and back directions of what to click on.. then he tried to go through it once.. and i was goin to cry.. i was gettin so pissed... so he was like.. i wanna go through it one more time.. i'im like.. omg ok.. .. that is fine. .then he pays me under my rate for the "extra" time... frick... i sould have added it to my other invoice...

From one customer? You should really calm down and think things thru. So what if you had one bad customer? Just make sure everything is done legit, get your money, and be on your way. Your rant doesn't make you look any more professional IMO.

I work in retail, and I have to deal with similar customers on a day to day basis. If I went in with this type of attitude, I would be fired in a heartbeat.

Just take it with a grain of salt man. Things could be worse.

i don't have to be professional on here.. i am just ranting... ... i do what i gotta do in the real world.. i'm online.. i can rant and be as stupid as i want.. lol... i just got annoyed.. soo.. meh..

Heh, yeah. Whenever my place interviews, we not only interview on basis of technical ability, but try and get a feel of how the person deals with others (people skill) and their reaction under high stress environments, namely with "belligerent users."

But on the note of this topic, I do the same as what others have said prior to me - I send them to Dell/HP.

I offer to build the computer for them ONLY if they understand that I will NEVER offer them free tech support in the future. Even if it is my best best best friend in the world, I probably will fix their computer for them, but I tell them up front that I WON'T.

he gave me 1200 in cash ... and then the check to finish cause i was doin networkin and helping him w/ other stuff... fixing things... soo yeah... i was being flexible...

so the 1000 is for network and tech support?

OK i consider services a little different. however you shouldnt have taken it if you couldnt cash it immediatly.

no the computer cost 1995... and 250 for install... soo w/e that works out to.. he only was left 1000 to pay me.. and soo yeah... he gave a check...

so 2245 - 1200 cash equals 1045, which was paid in check. Was the check post-dated?

I never understood why anyone would need to do that. If you have the money in the bank, then pay the damn price! :D

the check is dated 7/1/2004... yeah.. good stuff... and i'm sure i will hear about it today... cause i'm goin to make sure to tell him it will be cashed on the 1st...

and yeah.. he gave me the extra 45 for helping him w/ the 5 freakin pages of instructions...

I charge half up front and the other half is due upon delivery.

I had a guy that did the "your my personal Tech Support" crap to me. It only took him a week to figure out why I stopped returning his calls.

That's one of the nice things about having your own business. You don't have to kiss everyones ass. If this guy is getting on your nerves, don't do work for him anymore. Or, you can charge him up the arse for everything. He'll either pay you some ungodly rate (your happy :D ) or he'll go away (your happy :D ).

Last time I ask a favor from you I mean christ sake I didn't know something. So what! If you want more money stop by tomorrow. Just don't get all pissy!

{See you should be professional even online, The guy you were insulting could be a fellow hard member. Although not a bright one.}

ahah trust me.. he is more of a porn watcher... although he pays aight.. he is my furthest away.. about an hour to get to him.. and soo yeah... i am allowed to complain....

Half sense? I think you are hovering around 30% sense at best. :D
