Ok, I've seen a lot of really awesome case mods here so far and want to get rid of my boring old bargain bin case...OR CHANGE IT!!! The problem is I can't think of a good idea without feeling that I am previously copying off someone. Be creative, I have full access to a machine shop and materials. I will post a worklog when I get a good idea and start it so please leave some ideas!

Do a theme case. That is going to be my next one. The only thing I can think of is don't put a window everyone has it, or if you want a window do something original like i dunno unique. And it isn't copy'n if you can improve it ;)

I could do a theme, if i could think of one :( As far as ideas I need some concrete ideas such as Biological Warfare case but naturally I dont want to do that because there is already one on the forums.

the only ideas i can come up with:

-instead of doing a side window,do the top of the case with a window and do a light tint on it.
-my idea at one time was to make my own case using a trunk/hood/tailgate from a truck or car from a junkyard.
-garbage can PC{like one of those silver cans}

I haven't tried this, but I haven't seen it done either..It would involve making a window, but not just a regular square or but window, instead like a curvey window, or like a word...I don't know what you think of this. It would be helpful to all of us if you would tell us what you're in to, like games, hobbies, themes, colors, etc. It would be easier to think of some creative ideas that appeal to you...considering it is your computer.

well, im into airsoft (which for those of you that dont know, is kinda like paintball but much more realistic)to give you an idea here is my gun:

basically guns, computers(if not already obvious) and colors: red, black, and neon green.

Here's what I do for ideas when modding (or building from scratch ;)

System:
1. Choose a theme - it's often based from who the case is for, what they like, personality.
2. Decide on what type of mod you wish to do - paint only? etch? shape? amalgamation of hardware (computer related or not).
3. Choose materials - start with a case? Aluminium? Wood? Plastic? Acryllic?
4. Finally, and most importantly: Ambiance - lights, colours, finish, effect (fire, smoke, filters)

Example:
1. Monsters Inc.
2. Upholstered extremely lightweight custom built case.
3. Corrogated plastic, plastic pvc piping, fake fur (blue), foam, zip ties and aluminium wire for grounding.
4. Base of case glows blue, like light coming from under a door. Fog if possible. Cold cathode.

(Also, and this helps a lot, if you yourself are a good artist or have a friend who wouldn't mind, get some concept art done. Even if you don't have much planning to do, some sort of reference point can help the project actually take form and supply a goal too.)

Also helps to draw out your mod to scale first, whether it be in sketch form or photoshop.

(i prefer autocad for this myself, but I'm pretty anal about details)

That way nothing is forgotten or is less likely to be mis-sized, etc.
