Also, the math has to be done quite precisely and quickly. Last year I did a project involving GPS, and you have to solve 4 simultaneous non-linear equations in real-time, assuming that this transmitter will be moving. You can "linearize" them, but then you have to do several iterations to get a good answer. This almost definately requires something more beefy than a simple uController.
