okay, so I just put in my new cpu, p4 3.0E 800mhz fsb prescott 478pin. the mobo is an intel D865PERL and I hooked everything up, went to boot, and nothing happens. At first it did nothing, but now it just starts to go but stops after 2 seconds. The fans start to turn anything everying, then it dies. Everytime I hit the power button. It seems like everything is connected correctly and I haven't missed any hookups but I can't figure out the problem. help please!
 
Is the heatsink correctly placed and making good contact with the cpu? Did you remember to use a thin layer of thermal paste? Those would be my first two guesses.
 
yeah, I checked the cpu again, and it was fine, paste and all.
 
I don't think my mobo supports my cpu

The following board revisions (AA numbers) support these processors:
C27650-209 or later
C27646-210 or later
C26719-211 or later
C27648-208 or later
C40926-202 or later.


my processor falls under that category. P4 3.0E 478pin :confused: :( :( :mad:
 
Its happened to me before and all I did was unplug the floppy power connect and it worked believe it or not. It's probably just a case of something isnt grounded right. Try wat I did and if it doesnt work try unpluging everything that isnt nesseccary to startup: IDE cables, pci cards, etc...
