Okay, I'm sorry to add another one of these threads, but I am looking for some ideas too.

I recently got an APC BR1300LCD UPS. I love it, except for the fact that it does not play nice with my computer's power supply. I have a Seasonic M12-700 power supply. Whenever my UPS goes on to battery, it causes my power supply to make an awful buzzing noise. The same is also true when I tried running my pc off of my old UPS (an OPTI-UPS GS1100B). I had not noticed the noise because I did not have any power issues between my getting the Seasonic power supply and my getting the APC UPS.

So, after talking with various support reps (including one APC representative who told me my power supply made noise because it was not compatible with my operating system :rolleyes:), it looks like I need a UPS that outputs a true-sine wave in order to keep from damaging my computer's power supply. It has already shut itself off once while on battery, I would really like to not damage it. :(


I need a UPS that has the following features:
  • Outputs a true-sine wave when on battery
  • Is rated for at least 750W/1000VA
  • USB Connectivity
  • Has at least 8 outlets, with space for at least 2 transformer blocks.
  • Does not cost an arm and a leg.
I have used both OPTI-UPS and APC, and have been quite satisfied with both. However, I am trying to find a unit that is not so expensive. I know that true-sine costs more, but perhaps you all might have some suggestions to help me save at least a little money.

So far, the APC SUA1500 is looking like the best option, sans its $500 price tag.
 
The SUA1500 is available for cheaper at a couple places.

You can get it at tigerdirect for 299.99.

If you don't mind refurbished, you can get it at ExcessUPS for 249.99.

I've just ordered a refurbished sua1000 from ExcessUPS for 160.00. Hopefully it will work well.
 
I recently upgraded from an APC 1300VA to a OPTI-UPS TS1700B as my APC was dying under the load from my system.... essentially, i'd get a power spike, and my computer would turn off... it has doesn't meet your 8 outlet requirements (only has 4 on battery and 1 on just surge if my memory hasn't compleatly failed me) but it's worked like champ for a few months, and if you are willing to "deal" with the fewer number of outlets, it may be something worth looking into....

you can always use the other UPS to run other things...

Since that one at Tiger is only $299, it looks like that is the one I'll be getting! Sweet! :D
