I was looking at Logitech's THX Certified Z-680 5.1 Speaker 500Watt Silver
and Klipsch's ProMedia ultra 5.1 Personal Audio System. Could someone with considerable knowledge of the two or sound systems in general give me advice. I know very little about a whole lot.

I have heard great things about each. on newegg the klipsch's are about 80 bucks more than the 680's. I have the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's and they are GREAT!

If you have the money, get the klipsch.

from what i've heard, the Logitechs sound like shit compared to the Klipschs

If the price difference between the two is negligible, by all means go for the Klipsch's. A purist would never buy the z680's due to the single driver satelite's and the overall boominess and bass-heaviness (forgive the poor wording  ). I have know a guy who couldn't stand the boominess of the z680's so much that he returned it and bought a $300 home theatre in a box.. dunno what he was thinking there lol.

The Promedia 5.1's are more balanced sonically, though it doesn't have a digital SPDIF input as mentioned above. Klipsch does make audio hardware for professional applications and home theatre, so they have got to know what they're doing when it comes to the Promedia series. But I'm not trying to be biased and say Klipsch are THE BEST or anything, just giving my opinion.
