I know that there are a lot of threads about 6800gt vs ultra but i have no clue what to pick!!! i have the a8v-sli and i dont care how much it will cost me for the cards... what really is worth the money tho.... getting 2 gt`s or waiting to get 2 ultras... plz help
 
if it only a matter of getting the 16 pipelines working instead of the 12 that are activated on the GT then isnt it worth getting the gts

Also in PCI-Express there are virtually no differences between the Ultra and the GT except for clock speeds. Both cards have one molex connector and both cards have the same capacitors. The only physcial differences are the cooler, the I/O slot cover and the BIOS and in some but not all cases 2.0ns memory on the GT vs. 1.6 on the Ultra. However many GT's do come with 1.6ns memory.

On the AGP versions they have the differences listed above, but more importantly the GT has less capacitors and one less molex connector as the AGP cards have 2 4 pin molex's instead of one six pin molex. That usually doesn't stop the GT's from reaching Ultra speeds however.

As previously stated by another poster BOTH cards in AGP and PCI-E have 16 pipelines. The plain 6800 has 12 pipelines. But it also has slower ram. So even when the other pipelines are unlocked and the other vertex shader is unlocked, you still aren't likely to reach the clock speeds of the GT or Ultra and you are limited by the DDR1 memory which will NEVER run at 1100MHz. Not without phase change cooling anyway.

So for a full guaranteed 16 pipelines and a given core clock, plus the faster memory DDR1@700MHz vs. GDDR3@1000MHz the GT is definatley worth it's price over the vanilla 6800. This sort of debate between the GT and the Ultra is a much better one as the only practical difference is clock speeds. Which are easy to reach by overclocking.

The 6800 is way too far below the specs of a GT to be made anywhere near as fast as the GT or Ultra. Now the 6800 is still a damn fast card and is capable of playing anything, and in SLi the two offer a great bang for the buck option for owners of the A8N-SLi and other SLi capable motherboards. Slightly faster than the 6600GT's and not that much more expensive at MSRP.

There is one mistake in this SirFragalot:
The PCIE 6800NU is based on the nV41 chipset, there are no additional pipelines to unlock.
 
If you can afford it, defenetly sual Ultras.

Although dual 6800GTs mite be a little more bang for the buck..
