i have a 7800GTX, and when i play CS - i get 100fps but randomly it will drop to 15 and stay there and once i restart cs it seems to be fixed but does it again

any suggestions?

Look dude, my crystal ball is out getting waxed. So why dont you fill us in on the SPECS of the entire pc....then maybe we can figure something out.

Also try using Driver Cleaner, and re-installing.

ive got a SN25P shuttle, 3700+ San Diego, 1GB OCZ Platnium Ram, 74gb raptor, 7800GTX and the psu is 350W for the shuttle

Ouch that Psu is probably at its wits end bud. What the 12v rail spec on it?

could be the psu, but I am going to guess it's heat related. thos small form-factor cases often do not allow for a lot of good ventilation for piping hot video cards. The card starts to overheat and then the bios throttles it back a bit... then when the game is off, it cools back down... try running it with the case open and a fan on it.. see what happens.

well - during intense load it is likely higher than that... I added to my post above, so check that out...

EDIT: it could very well be voltage, but test with the case open and some air on the card just to rule overheating out as a culprit.

ok - just make sure nothing falls in there while it's running.

Well - if it's not heat, then perhaps disconnect your DVD and/or CD drives, floppy, and all other unnecessary powered devices to free up as much power as you can for the video card. If it is power, it sounds like you are very close to the "threshold" so disabling those few devices just may free up enough power to validate your test. If that fixes the problem, then you'll need to look into getting a new PSU.

Its not the shuttle PSU. That thing can handle TWo 7800's and an FX_57 if it wanted too.

I was going to mention that I knew other people which run those cards on that psu just fine... but i supposed it could be a marginally bad one... you never know... but still think it's heat.
