OK, I've been reading around for ages and am still not sure what to do. Here is my situation:

Budget is £1400 (US$ 2600)
I want a LCD('s)
Will be building a whole new system (FX, SLI - nf4 etc) in January and I need the monitor sorted by the end of Jan (although due to January sales I may buy the monitor early Jan).
I don't currently have a tv (started uni in sept) and to save space I was planning on having a digital tv card in my pc - this would also act as a PVR.
Will be using computer for, as already stated, digital tv, watching DVD's, gaming, light photoshop use, office apps (word etc), internet browsing.
intergrated speakers are not important as I'll be using audigy 2 ZS coupled with logitech Z-5500 5.1 speakers.
Would prefer to keep to DVI - so I'm guessing 2 monitors max (don't really want to buy a PCI graphics card)

Please can you give me opinions on what to do, I keep thinking im set on one particular monitor then i change my mind. Also what is watching digital tv like on a computer monitor - does it looks a bit funny if I were running 1920x1200 res for instance?

Is widescreen gaming really all that? I mean I hear people rave about how good it is, but is it really? (just say no please :p ) Right so I'm thinking buy 1 20/21" 1600x1200 LCD, say, Dell 2001FP (If I can find one, as I think Dell have stopped making them), then buy a LCD TV with the remainder of cash, which would be something like £800-£900.

Do any LCD TV's not come with speakers? or speakers that one can remove? Also anyone know if you can attatch some logitech Z5500 5.1 speakers to a audigy 2 and either attatch them also to the tv, or attatch the TV to the computer somehow? This is getting complicated...

A rundown (because I know you guys are loving this :D )
1 x 1600x1200 for gaming with sound coming from audigy 2 ZS and Logitech Z5500 5.1 speakers.
1 x LCD TV where I would want to use the logitechs as the speakers but also use the DVDrom drive as the DVD drive (man i'm making a mess of this :rolleyes: you know what I mean) and also find someway of recording tv shows onto my harddrive. Oh and I would like digital TV (freeview here in the UK) which I was planning on getting via installing a digital TV card, which had PVR functions. So can I do all this?

Remeber I'll be using two 6800u's

Have you got prices for the components you want? £1400 isn't a lot if you're building a higher end machine. Or is that £1400 just for a display?
 
I would consider the new Samsung coming out or even the current 243T.

You could also go 2x 2005fpw screens for aroun 1200 US dollars. I own one of them and I must say they are a steal at under 600 each. (levraging coupons and the like) They have multiple source imputs so the versatility would serve you well.

Finaly yes wide screen gaming is the bomb!!!. I will never game in 4:3 again. ROFLMA

I enjoy a significant advantage in CS with the wide screen. I typicaly am in the top 5 on any server. I went wide screen and routinely finish top 3 and enjoy first place more often. The added periphreal vision on a game that supports wide screen like CS gives you an advantage that is border line cheating. :cool:

Ps: I have a 213T i want to sell that is immaculate PM me if your interest in sticking with the 4:3 aspect ratio
 
But I keep hearing watching TV and DVD's at high res isn't very good, thats the only reason why I've started thinking about LCD TV. And if you lower the res they look blurry.

Would I be able to watch TV and DVD with good quality at 1680x1050 for instance? Also don't you still get black bars on the 16:10 ratio dells?

Does anyone know whether you can use the coupon codes to get 25% off in the UK?

I dont watch tv on the Dell but i have done DVD movies and its breathtaking even with scale to fit on.

The 213T is spectactular for TV @4:3 and very good with DVD movies in 4:3



Regarding the coupons , they are just marketing. Call Dell and tell them you lost the coupon number or could not obtain one . Go on to tell them that you recognize the purpose of the coupons is to get customers and explain that well your here and you want a deal. I ended up net $516 landed for my Dell 2005 . IT was $626 landed then i called and asked for additional discounts and they gave it to me.
 
But I live in the UK and the DELF game of whatever its called doesn't seem to be on the UK dell site. I'll just email them.

Think I might try and go for two 2005FPW's in dual monitor setup. Strictly speaking I should be able to watch tv on one monitor and browse the net on the other?
