Both my parents and my in-laws are going to be doing some extensive traveling and want to keep in contact by webcam since I have young children (3yrs old and 5mos old). They both have webcams integrated into their laptops. I have never owned, bought or even used a webcam, so I am in virgin territory. I've been looking at these 2 on newegg:

Microsoft LifeCam Cinema

Anyone familiar with these models or have some caveats?

I ma a fan of logitech periphials, & although I dont have that model I have an older one that has been perfect.
 
If you are using it with a desktop system, I would suggest the Logitech Orbit AF. Works great and has excellent picture quality (for a webcam) and you can adjust a lot of settings.

Only draw back is after three or four driver updates ago, the camera rotates all the way to the left and clicks before going back to center after a reboot/power on. Hasn't seemed to hurt the camera but it gets annoying when multiple reboots are required.
