Can anyone recommend some sanders I should look at. This will be for normal case moding (taking paint off the case) as well as for furniture etc.


I was looking at this unit at lowes (home depot also has a similar model though I'm not sure if there is a difference.). Is orbital the way to go? What about replacement discs, are the expensive? Should I go for a different type of sander alltogether. Any input would be helpful. :D

don't forget about the cost of the sanding pads as that can add up aswell.

the mouse sander is weak. i would like to see you sand down a table top or a bed frame with that lol. a random orbit sander (of any kind) is going to be 100X better than the vibrating mouse. hook a vacum hose to the r/o sander and your sandpaper last much longer since you don't gum up the paper and you keep the amount of dust flying around down to a minimum. If you are going to spend money on a tool why would you waste it on a toy like that mouse when you can have a Porter Cable that will last you for years to come? I know it costs a lot more but with power tools, you always get what you pay for.

Thanks for the links, and the reviews at amazon have also been helpful but have also brought up some new questions.



Can anyone tell me which is better: adhesive-backed sanding discs, or the hook and loop discs? Each orbital sander out there seems to come in 2 models, which is better?
