I need a new computer desk

I built mine. It's 3'x6'. I built the entire thing for under 200. The most expensive thing was the HON fileing cabinet that makes up one of the table legs. The other side is a pair of mohogany legs I built.

shens

That is quite a nice one too.

I reccomend garage sales for good values... thats where i got my $40 one

my Ikea Jerker (yes I know you said no ikea) was 99 bux for the table, two shelves and a cable trunking unit. well worth it imho.

I just went to my local Staples and checked out their selection and bought a nice one for 150...I suggest you do that...

I built mine also from 2x4's which for nice non green wood run like 2 bucks a piece. Stain was a buck or two a can, and i used 1x6s(?) kinda like a plank board. Forget the size now.

Anyways i was able to custom make the height and make it very sturdy for probably around 20 bucks, including the stain, nails, and screws.

The desk is very heavy, but i could use it for a bed it i wanted. My advice, build your own :D

It looks very professional, and is twice as sturdy as a 40 dollar desk for half the price. The only tools you might need are a screw driver, hammer, brush for stain (unless you buy pre-stained wood) and handsaw. Possibly sand paper depending on how you make it.

(it also has the added benefit of a sense of accomplistment, supporting american companies etc. besides that youll save a nice chunk of dough)

bought a nice one (i think it's nice) at wal-mart for 100 bucks. would take a pic, but i'm at work on saturday.....

I thought today is Sunday. :D

I really hate most computer desks. My current one is from Best Buy and is Busch. If you are not picky Walmart, Bestbuy, Office Depot etc mostly have the same shit.

I plan to upgrade to better desk and ergo chair once my tax return comes in. If I were getting a desk today it would be Comta desk, either the Conducter (wood top) or Imax desk. Here a couple of links.

Conducter
Imax

My desktop is a hollow-core door from Home Depot and my legs are two 2-drawer Hon filing cabinets.

Functional, easy to move and the hollow-core door is surprisingly strong. I have a 19" CRT floating between the filing cabinets along with a 17" LCD and there is no sign of fatigue on the thing.

If you need a taller inexpensive space saving desk the Z-line series at staples is pretty nice. I got the Z-line Surf housing a secondary rig in my spare bedroom. Theres some flexibility with the shelving space and the very bottom shelf can be removed to accomodate taller ATX towers. Get a Staples $15 off $75 coupon from Fatwallet to reduce the price to $65.

Sturdy enough, fairly nice to look at, some flexibility with shelving, cheap, lots of space in a taller but compact design.
