I've got a Danger Den D5 or whatever equivalent pump and a Black Ice Xtreme GTX 360. 3/8" tubing. I want to cool a QX6700 (Dtek Fuzion), 2 8800 GTXs (Danger den), a 680i northbridge (danger den), and possibly the OCZ Flex RAM if it turns out that's worthwhile. Is this a good idea? What order should everything be in?

I currently have it set up without the RAM and the CPU temps aren't very good. 39C idle but Prime95 pushed it into the 80s. I stopped the torture test pretty quick when it got that high. I'm trying to figure out what's causing it to be so poor for a water setup.

What cpu block are you using? You might want to try remounting it. The heat put out by your cpu and vid cards is considerable. Most people will try to cool them on separate loops.

WC'ing your ram is primarily a waste.

As far as order, just make sure that your res/t-line is feeding your pump. Route the rest of it the shortest and most sensible way you can.

It's the Dtek Fuzion. I heard it was supposed to be pretty good but also have a fairly low restriction.

Are you OC'ing your cpu?

The D-Tek is a great block. But I would check to see if your getting good contact. Pull it off and check you TIM pattern.

Those temps were with it pushed up from 9x to 11x, so yeah, it was.

What am I looking for in the pattern? An even layer across the block?

As for applying the TIM, I heard one idea of putting some on the center of the IHS and letting the block spread it out, but I've normally just spread it very thinly myself before putting the block on. Which is actually used for C2Q/C2D?

Is it possible you got too much in one loop? 3/8"ID is also kinda restrictive for such a big loop... And I'm not sure how good is Black Ice for quad+2x8800gtx+680i NB=tons of heat.

How long until it got in the 80s?

If it went from idle to 80 in under a minute, it's probably your waterblock...

If it took 5-10 minutes to creep up there, it's probably your radiative capacity.

It happened before I could even get all 4 primes running torture test. I was amazed how quickly it shot up to what I think is probably a dangerous temperature. When you stop the torture test, the temperature falls off down to its idle almost instantly, sometimes dropping 6-7C inbetween one measurement in TAT.

Guess I better get the TIM on there better. :p

Hmm, I also just noticed a 5c difference between the two cores on TAT. Whoops.

Ok, so, no on the RAM and go 1/2". Anything in parallel or just make it a straight series thing?

Also, for curiosity's sake, what would it do to split that 1/2 into multiple 1/4 lines at the end if I were to include the RAM? Dammit, OCZ, why couldn't you have used G1/4" holes :p

One last edit: what 1/2" does everyone use and where do you get coolsleeves?

Ok. This loop has some good sides and some bad side.

One, you have good blocks etc. And you have decided to switch to 1/2", also good.

Two, your radiator is being pushed to the limits. If you don't want to get two loops, you are going to need some very powerful fans on that thing if you want your temps to go down.

You are pushing over 400 watts of heat onto that thing. (From memory i got that number, I think QX6700 at stock and 8800GTXs ~ 125W TDP). If I were you, I'd set up a second loop.

For the two loops, I'd get a Thermochill PA120.2 and put just the QX6700 on it. The 8800GTX are designed to run very hot (just look at the stock temps!), and can deal with the lesser radiator, but the qX6700 will definately benefit from the separate loop.

If you don't want to wait for a Thermochill PA120.2, grab a Swiftech MCR320 (I'd get a 320, but you could probably get away with a 220), and setup the CPU on that. If you get a 320, you could even toss the chipset in on the loop, and save your GPU loop from the added restriction.

Btw, what are you using for your resovior/t-line?

Oh, and for the what 1/2" tubing do you guys use, I use MasterKleer 7/16" tubing on 1/2" fittings. Snug as ever, and doesn't need clamps =D. And I got my coolsleeves from performancs-pcs.

I don't really have room for another radiator in the case, and I'm trying to keep everything enclosed if possible, hmmm

My res is the tank-o-matic. I've actually got it feeding into the pump through 1/2" already, just because it was easier than converting the pump on both ends.

I don't mind 120mm fan noise at all. I am going to eventually move up to 120+cfm fans on the GTX360. I'm a headphones guy, so it's all good :D

Ouch, then I'd try to get a Thermochill PA120.3 and replace your GTX with it. While some people here may disagree, I believe that the PA120.3 performs better than any same-sized radiator (120x3, not depth), and so do the forum trolls at DangerDen.com.

And that res is going to be the death of your system. Your radiator, and waterblocks are all copper, and you have an ALUMINUM res? You know what that means guys, CORROSION! Toss the thing now! To replace it, I'd get either a swiftech MC-Res micro, or a T-line, but don't put aluminum into your loop!

If you do drain your loop, I'd clean out all the blocks, with, at the very least, a flush or two of distilled water.

I hadn't thought about it, actually, but presently I'm using Fluid XP+.

The cooling ability shouldn't be that bad compared to water and I'm not the keenest on using coolant.

Cooling ability wont be impacted much, but you will still eventually get corrosion, wether or not your using FluidXP. Also, think about every time you want to refill your loop a little...

Ugh. I didn't know you were using FluidXP. Get rid of that crap. It doesn't cool as well as water and it gunks up your loop.

The PA120.3 is a better rad than the GTX360 but not by much. Don't think the difference warrants the $140 to switch it out.

Get rid of ANY aluminum in your loop.

True, if he's puttin 120CFM fans on his rad, I think they'd both perform about the same anyways =D.

if you want to watercool your flex ram (might as well since t he barbs are there), you should wye your line somewhere. the chipset probably can run a little warmer and not affect anything, so put it on the weak end of the wye that's going to the ram.

i can't remember but i recall the flex being 1/4" ? it depends on how much you want to restrict this wye up. i'd imagine that if you got another wye and then downconverted to 1/4", that branch of the wye would actually get more flow than you need. In order to give the graphic cards more flow, since they probably need more cooling, i might just downstep to 1/4" and connect your ram in series. Then up back to 1/2" and wye back in.

pump-rad-cpu-wye
wye1-chipset-ram-ram
wye2-graphics-graphics
-wye

hopefully, since you're dropping to 1/4" and running a fair distance that way, the flow in that parallel path will be pretty weak, giving most of the flow to the graphics. But at the same time, it won't hurt the flow through the cpu too much.

Bump. :p

It looks like I could fit another 2x80 radiator into my case, but would that even be worth it? I don't seem to have the space for another pump, and would it even be worthwhile to stick a 80mm radiator onto the loop I have?

Stick the radiator in there, and another pump and a t-line, and run the chipsets on that using 3/8" or 1/4" tubing. Will save the restriction from your main line.

Do not stick the dual 80MM on your main loop.

I decided to go nuts and get 3 delta FFB1212EHE fans for my radiator. Hopefully they can run pretty slow on a PWM controller because I don't want them on full power all the time. :p Though I do almost always wear headphones. Lets see how 3x190cfm does with this setup. :D

Unless you're pushing tons of air through that rad it's going to be hotter than hell. Thus the name "Xtreme". PA120.3 or MCR-320QP for the win.

Two words, extension cables.

Place your PC in another room, and you'll have ambient temps all you like :D.
