Well I went upstairs to watch some tv and there was some shit about the esrb on techtv. Show was called icons. Alright I watched that and then I see the next show.......

This "show" consists of random clips of video games and nothing more. God I hate g4! Hell that felt good :) Just wanted to share my misery over the g4 buyout situation.

One thing that reallly erks me about G4. I really don't think they use quality film equipment on their shows. TechTV had wonderfully filmed shows, they looked like every other show out there. But G4 has something to them that makes them feel unprofessional. Or... is that just me? It's G-Phoria event is also a laugh. I remember w/ the first one they hyped it to NO end. Then when it finally comes, it was a complete and total joke. No one was there, the presentations for best game / blah blah blah were horribly corny and almost sad.

but.. i'm rambling! I feel your pain Global. :(
 
Question: Ive been out of the loop on cable/sat TV for a 6 months now, Does DirectTV still carry TechTV now that its been bought by G4? ive always wanted to see how bad g4 is, but never got a chance. and here at college we didnet even get techtv, and at my new house, we only get cable internet :D
 
Yeah, I miss the old TechTV. It's kinda ironic that a network dedicated to games can never compare to X-Play, the only game show on TechTV. The one show that I do watch on G4 is Arena, the game tournament show.. But lately they've been doing some stupid games like the console game where you crash cars and do the most damage. I mean, come on, go back to UT2k3 and Mechwarrior 4, and Americas Army. Games that actually require you to compete with the other team instead of who gets the best single player score. :rolleyes:
 
I was watching G4TechTV the other day, I think it was the same show, Icons. I was watching the wacky 70s colored lines flying around with pictures coming out of them, leading to the title. I thought something was a bit familiar, but I kept watching. I watched a few people talk heaps about people they never met and talk about things they never actually saw happen, because there was nobody on the show that even knew remotely anybody they were talking about. Something still struck me as remotely familiar, so I kept watching. Then they played modern hip-hop when they were talking about how cool the Game and Watch was, then switched somngs every 5 seconds with stuff that had even less to do with the subject matter than the last one. Then I realized that I'd seen this channel before, it's called V-H-FSCKING ONE.

It's the same thing, a channel that tries to catch a more 'in the know' audience and claims to be for the [music fans, gamers], yet are sitting on more money than if Ted Turner and Bill Gates got married. It's a corporate act to get people to pay them more money, maximizing profits by hiring only people that don't know what they're talking about but know how to act like it. I also have a feeling that G4 doesn't come first in the new name because it comes first in the alphabet, the once proud TechTV name's been reduced to a billboard for G4.
 
What really irks me is that almost every tech tv show has a description of series speacial on the dish guide and all the g4 shit has a paragraph about. I have a feeling the screen savers will be going away, it has been on less and less. Tech TV was actually interesting g4 is just blah.
 
G4 does suck, I have watched it a couple times and it is just random crappy game footage... They have like MMORPG characters goign around and talking with gay voices.. It is lame!

i hate the merger, all the g4 shows suck and they only show the screen savers once a day. I use to be able to catch the show at 6 or 11 pm, now if i mis it, i'm screwed:mad:

Most of the cast won't be on it that much longer anyway. TSS is gonna go the way of the entire network. :(

I have to admit i miss call for help as well. It was a nice so to watch for odd news, and a good show to MAKE peopel watch that didn't know much about there computer to learn basic tips to keep things running

then iv been a TSS fan for a long time


g4 sucks, they took over a tech industry channel that my dad would watch, and my grandpa to something aimed towards a gaming crowd, such a stupid choice if you ask me.

umm your talking about some tech tv show that i have absolutely no clue about and not the motorola PPC 7450's correct ?
 
yeah, and i remember that the techtv website had FULL descriptions on their website, and full-lenght articles. Now, you only go to the website to see a one-liner about the show. It's like g4 MAKES you watch. g4 has really been the downfall of techtv, comcast put too much faith in it. it would have been better if there was some integration, i.e. techtv hosts visiting g4 shows and vice versa, and if g4 had used some quality film rather than that washed-out faded look.

Some episodes of Icons are pretty good, like the Atari one and the Tetris one. They actually interviewed the real people.
But, one the whole, I'll agree. G4 has killed the only reason I watched TechTV: Leo Laporte. Yeah, go ahead and flame about how he didn't know what he was talking about, but Leo was still the man and fun to watch.
Also, I saw that show you're talking about one day. They had a clip from Magic Carpet! WTF is with that?! No reason, just videos from crappy games.
 
I dont get G4 here where I live, but last week I was staying in a hotel that did. So, I flipped to it, and there was some kind of review show on. What were they reviewing? Tron 2.0, F-zero, and Soul Calibur 2. Ehhh.... little slow guys? Sadly, this wasn't just a rerun, because the hosts actually said. "Finally a year after its release, we have the review for you". sad.... so sad....
 
TechTV was just so much better than G4. I used to watch TechTV couple times a week now it's like once every other week or so.
 
I have not had a chance to see what the merger has done to Tech TV. I cancelled digital cable the day before they merged. I still catch episodes of the screensavers I find around the net but it does not have the same flair as when Leo was there.
It was painful for a while but it is summer and I forget how to work the tv anyway. :D
 
X-Play would've been perfect without that stupid announcers voice that comes on at the beginning and after commercials...it's so ridiculous.

I liked watching TSS and Call for Help every once in a while too. G4 licks balls, and unfortunately, that's all TechTV is going to be soon.

Hey, I love "Disembodied Voice." He's a funny guy, kinda like the 3rd host that isn't really there.

X-Play (only cause of Morgan, the guy sucks)

I really haven't been able to watch the screensavers as much as I used to since the merger. Kevin and Sarah are OK on the show but it's just wierd with the 2 of them. As much as I thought Leo was a tool - I have to agree - he made the network and now it totally sucks. There is nothing of value in the G4 shows - they all seem like they are targeted to 12 year olds.

Did anyone notice how terrible Call for Help was when Roger Chang and Kat were hosting it? It was hard to watch - like it made me uncomfortable. Leo was the network and now without him it just plain sucks.

G4=local cable public access and sucks.

Leo left because they cut his pay and the way they handled it was very unprofessional, he did not have a prob with his salry cut, but, had a problem with the way they had handled it.
 
Am i the only one who thinks arena sucks? All they are doing is playing games! Its like going to a lan without a computer! its not fun unless im playing it. Plus the announcers are a joke and are wrong half the time!

I didn't really bother to read everyone's post but in my opinion tech tv was much better off when they were without g4. again my opinion :p

And i agree the old cast of tss was much better and leo was very cool, yoshi is cool too he he
 
what i dont like are these shows like arena and stuff, i just want to know about new games coming out, and xplay did it for me, i thinkthey just went too overboard with the game thing
 
wait, what happened to the hosts of TSS? I havent watched in a while, cause I have no fucking idea when it comes on thanks to the new G4 screwed up schedule...


the only good show on G4 is pulse, i like video game news. every other show is just biased towards sony.

After nearly ten years, four owners, well over 2000 live TV shows, lots of laughs, a few tears, and meeting many many wonderful people, my time at TechTV has come to an end.

I could tell so many stories about the talented, committed, hard working, and hard partying people I've worked with there. Each and every one of them will always have a special place in my life . It was with great sadness that I walked out the studio door for the last time last night.

The reasons for my leaving are complicated. As I posted here a few weeks ago, management and I had come to a very satisfactory agreement about a new work schedule and salary, but at the last minute TechTV's outgoing owner, Vulcan Ventures, insisted that I sign away all claims against them regarding shares they had given me some years ago. I was unwilling to do so, and they held my job as hostage.

My leaving has nothing to do whatever with G4 or Comcast. In fact, I'm very sorry that I won't be around to participate in the transition. I've already contacted G4 to let them know I'd be glad to continue working at the new channel once they take over and I hope that I'll get that chance.

Fortunately I still have a great job at KFI, a sweet book contract with Que, this thriving web site, and many requests for speeches and other appearances. My family will not starve, and I will be keeping very busy no matter what happens.

Call for Help will continue on the air without me. George Crowe, Dan Mitchell, Fawn Luu, Roger Chang, Cat Schwartz, and Ian the new guy, whose last name I still can't spell, are still there working their tails off to do the best show on TechTV for the least amount of money. Nicole Guilfoyle and Rich Miglozzi are still slaving away to make the web site the best resource ever. Steve Porter, Rob D'Arcy, Bill Coen, Josh Villegas, Raevon Armand, Deb Croback, Jon Martin, Greg Tremelling, Brett, Fatty Matty, David Chung, Jim Smith and the best studio crew in the world are still there keeping things running light without overbyte. Please keep watching.

For the second time in as many weeks I find myself saying goodbye. My spirits were buoyed with the hundreds of wonderful messages I got last week. It's so gratifying to know that the work we've done has made such a big difference in so many people's lives. With apologies to Lou Gehrig, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the Earth. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I won't be on TV for a little while. But I do hope we'll see each other again on the small screen some day. Until then, thanks for an incredible 10 years. I'll miss you.

As for G4TechTV.....IT SUCKS.

I use to watch TSS, Call for help, and X-PLay all the time. Then Leo left and I started to loose intrest. Then Call For Help was cut and I only checked the TechTV website for reviews. Then the site was remade to and looked very ugly. I now probably watch X-Play once a month, that's it. The guys at TSS seemed to have lost faith, so I stopped watching. I wouldn't be suprised if G4 is loosing millions. Also, if you live in NYC, Comcast cut G4/TechTV all together because no one was watching. :(

Yeah, I hate the show too. But the show with MMORPGs and such, I think titled "Portal", I absolutley 100% hate with a passion. I hate it so fuckin much! :mad:

And I think that is it, but I may be missing a few. By the way, do they still show Fresh Gear, because that show kicked so much ass.

I miss when they were two seperate networks. It was, just better.

yea i rarely catch TSS anymore it blows now :[, used to 11pm would be the perfect time! and the shows were actually interesting..and when i do actually catch it its a rerun...G4 is terrible, i have yet to see a new episode of anything and the guys on judgment day are pitiful, ROFL. I liked leo he was a really smart guy but i like kevin better because hes younger and more "hip".....I wonder if G4Techtv ([G]ood [4] Nothing) will even take these complaints into consideration or to continue to ruin the only computer info/gamers channel on tv...HMM

The good ole' days of tech tv...wow...i remember those...TSS down in the basement, when Cat was still on it and Marty was there too. UGM 5.0, the comp that introduced me to o/c'ing, underground computing, and the [H]. Tech Live with all of those hotties. Extended Play with Adam and Kate. And Fresh Gear with Sumi Daas. Fresh Gear was an awesome show. I will miss it. I will miss ALL of it. Everything. I don't cry much, however I have a memory like a hawk, and I remember those days well.


I really want to cry, I really do, regardless of how wimpy it looks.


G4 and Comcast ruined TechTV. Many older people, who just started using computers for the first time a few years ago relied on TechTV for help. Now where will they go?

I propose that the [H], and many other websites, raise money to start another channel, with all of the same, and old, hosts. With all of the same, and old, shows. And make sure that it will never be put in the hands of a major corporation.

But it's only a dream, and it'll never happen.

I feel for you bro.

ZDTV is what launched me into PC's and helped me a lot for a while. THen I just picked it up from there and started learning on my own. Its a damn shame. Hopefully G4 will pay....and they are.
 
X-Play is awesome on G4-TechTV i watched before the merger, but both of them are phenomenal. I believe both of them are in fact HEAVY gamers and they show it. Not only do they rip on games like the overdone star wars series... they make fun of everything bad in games, but will give good games its glory and why they are good.

Screen savers actually had intelligent people. They weren't like G4 who treats their audiences like computer idiots, TSS actually answered more challenging questoins and showed some very nifty computer programs and tips.

I'll miss you TechTV :mad:

exactly, EXACTLY!

X-play, and Extended Play for that matter, were not biased at all, unlike the other 40 shows on G4. For X-play, if Sony has a great game, and Nintendo has a good game, while Xbox had an okay game, all three rocked. There was no "the xbox game sucks cause sony is better"

But on G4TechTV (I shudder when I say TechTV immediatley after G4), if Sony has a horrible game, and Nintendo and Xbox have the greatest games ever, Sony wins. I hate G4TechTV. The only two shows I'll watch is Pulse, for news, and Players, cause you get to see the video-game side of celebrities, even if they are xbox-biased. I can't stand Judgement Day, at the E3 award special, Sony won everything. Sony's press conference beat Microsoft's with Halo 2, the EA-Xbox Live announcement, and Nintendo's with the Revolution announcement, the DS, the fact that Nintendo is doing as bad as people think (GC sold more than Xbox this past year), and the new Zelda game. Sony PSP beat DS (in terms of booth), even though you couldnt TOUCH the PSP, but you could PLAY the DS. They are very biased, and it pisses me off cause some gamers actually BELIEVE them.


and even if you guys hate Nintendo, you have to admit, the fact that PSP was not playable definately was a HUGE con. And the fact that no specs were announced, i.e. battery life, was also quite large. So it's no contest, if DS didn't win, PSP shouldnt have either.
