Hello everyone. There has to be something wrong with me. Every computer I've ever built has horribly high temps. I remember having problems with my older system; an AMD Athlon 1.2 with an after market HSF. It never overheated so I was fine, but the temps were still very high.
With my new system, I have a Intel Core 2 Duo e6400 with the stock HSF, which Core Temp gives me a reading of around 52-54 (Celsius) while idling. F@H brought it up to 65 per core and I left it overnight and came back to it being frozen (I just got back my RMA'd motherboard so I hadn't updated the BIOS, which I just did but haven't retested anything yet).
I've used Arctic Silver on both systems, but the temps are always much higher than anywhere else I see. I installed the CPU (on my latest build) following the Arctic Silver directions step-by-step. I was thinking of purchasing an aftermarket HSF, but I'm concerned that it won't really help much, and that I must either be half-retarded, or cursed.
Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? I haven't given much information because I don't know what you guys would need to know in order to help. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thank you.
